I am about to paint a war eagle 1648 that I just purchased. I have seen pictures of some really well done Camo paint jobs (self done) on the boards, so I am wanting some tips. The boat was painted battleship gray from the factory so I will be painting over that. I am repowering the boat so I am de-rigging for the paint job. Give me your advice on a base coat color and then process for adding stenciled brown and black pattern etc. i mostly hunt flooded timber. Give me as much detail as you can.
Thank you.

Call Matt Massingill at Sportsman's Specialties in Starkville at 601-941-9051. He does NatGear, Bottomland, & Breakup. He's a lot cheaper than you'd think. Good guy too. He did mine last week. Tell him Sam sent you.

FYI, Bottomaland on a boat in the timber looks like a black blob. Looks good to the human eye, but doesnt hide well. Nat Gear is the only camo to use in the trees.

^^this. I almost got the bottomland, but changed my mind because of 2 reasons... will look like black hole in the winter and the darker color will retain more heat in the summer.

+1 on Matt Massingill. He did mine in Break Up here a few months ago. Very reasonable and a good guy to deal with. He's a college student and does this for extra money. He also put a 10 mil thick flex-coat on the bottom of my boat.

+3 on Matt. He just did my 1860 a few weeks ago in Natgear. For a 1648 the price wouldnt be that much more than what you can do it yourself for and it will likely look a hell of a lot better.

Not if we are going to the river when it is a stiff 20mph South wind and standing 3 - 4 ft waves

Should still be a bite mark in the center seat some where from my sphincter.
