Building new rifle. Scope suggestions
Building new rifle. Scope suggestions
Currently, I am building a new rifle. So far I have a Rem 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD (.308) set in a Bell & Carlson Adjustable Tactical Medalist stock. with Harris bipod. I have been going back and forth on scopes though. Been looking at the Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x50 (mil-dot) and Nightforce 5.5-22x50 (Mil-dot). Any other suggestions? I would like a 30mm tube. Will be shooting subsonic and supers. Would like to eventually stretch it out over 500 yards.
Re: Building new rifle. Scope suggestions
I am shooting the Nightforce with NP2D in 5.5x22 and also a Swarovski in 6x24 with fine reticle. I like the Nightforce better for low light because of the reticle. My brother shoots a Schmidt and Bender and loves it. All are long range options for us.
Re: Building new rifle. Scope suggestions
I put a Mark 4 6.5X20 on Rem 700 5R a few months ago and love it. I have the TMR reticle (illuminated). If you like fine crosshairs, I would look at the TMR over the Mil Dot. When I bought the Mark 4, I looked very hard at a Night Force, but the weight of the NF made me go with mark 4. If you are only wanting to shoot out to 500 yards, either one of those will be more than enough scope.
Re: Building new rifle. Scope suggestions
Thanks. So far the rifle is weighing in around 9-10lbs. I figured this would be a heavy build so a few ounces on scope shouldn't hurt too much. I like the TMR reticle. I've got some time to decide and will try to find both to look at before purchase. Also, are yall using a one piece base and rings with pic rail or the 2-piece bases?
Re: Building new rifle. Scope suggestions
Have to look but I think I have the Mark IV rings and bases. My brother has Talley I think or maybe Bear something ??? Not sure though.
Re: Building new rifle. Scope suggestions
nightforce 5.5-22 with np-r2 reticle. i have 3 of them if that speaks to how much i like them, and i shoot out to and occasionally over 1000yds. i use talley 2 piece bases and rings.

I've got 3 NF. One benchrest model and two nxs scopes. I use the NF RIngs and bases when they fit. Great line of scopes. Not swaro quality glass but I like the NF turrets. SnB police marksman (?) is a good scope but awful steep in price. Never shot with the leupy but I know Sightron makes a good scope.

Dont get the Swaro Z6 5-30x50 with 30mm tube. I got one with the ballistic recticle and am not particularly impressed with it in low light situations.
Re: Building new rifle. Scope suggestions
schmidt bender 5-25X56 with a P4 fine reticle..... it is a 34mm tube for getting all the elevation past 1000 meters (if thats your thing) . Last one I sold went for $ 4K ...... not the cheapest, but the best in my oppinion.
Re: Building new rifle. Scope suggestions
Great. Thanks for the suggestions. Was thinking about getting pic rail and one piece quick release mount. Want to eventually get a gen 3 or 4 night vision scope to switch out for picking off piggies at night and switch back to reg scope with out having to rezero from scratch. I know remounting will knock scope out of zero a bit, but wouldn't expect it to be off more than 1 or 2 MOA at 100yds. What do yall think? Bad idea?
