After a couple of years of soggy layout blind hunting I am looking for a different route. Our lease keeps what some call sheet water most of the winter. Most of the times it is only 2-8in. deep. But when it rains it can get up to a foot and a half deep or deeper in some areas. Last year I hunted out of a cabelas ultimate some thing of the other layout blind that kept most of the water out until the mice found it. As far as cover goes there really isn't much at all. So imagine a muddy field with a pond in the middle with little to no cover and that is basically what i am working with. I was just wondering if anyone on here has found a better way to hunt these conditions than in a layout blind sitting in a 6" of water? I have thought about maybe a Final Attack or something to that nature? Just cover that dude up with mud put some doors on it and go with it. has anyone gone the coffin blind route? How deep of water is that normally good for? Any help would be great. I really don't need to spend more than 350 bucks or so and looking for used Final Attacks really isn't panning out.

A layout boat would work.

This may help. Set it 2" above water.............just add layout,mud,etc.

if you wanting to keep it cheap, yet effective, get you some pallets and lay them down and put your layout on top of them. that'll keep you out of the water and still mobile.

or you could get you one of the beaver hut's they advertise in macks now. it's a float tube with a flip top on it.

Reclining seat. Tow hook - pulls easily behind 4-wheeler. Spot for dog behind the hunter. Very low profile. Blind can be mudded and/or stubbled (stubble straps). Lids work like tyical layout blind. Easier to keep yourself dry. You can put dri-deks inside to separate you from water from dog returning after retrieve.

fiberglass mummy boat

This is a pic of the layout I built but in the background you will see a simple coffin blind i made. It is very light weight and only cost about $50.00 to build after buying the fiberglass. Build it, paint it, and make a cover out of good netting and fast grass or use grass mats.

We hunt mostly fields, and have used sled blinds that stuck out like a sore thumb...built small blinds with t post ......layout blinds/everythings muddy and wet at some point and impossible to shoot out of unless the birds are at just at the right angle....I know many others on here have used these, I think Champcaller suggested using them in another thread....but this is the most comfortable/ dry/ easy to shoot out of field blind I used in my 41 years of duck hunting . We killed more birds out of these than any other blinds we use. Home depot has them on sale for 10.00, its got to be a mistake, but I bought 2 Sunday and sent my son back for 4 more last night. I put fast grass/ raffia grass on'em last year and was a waste of time and money, ending up tearing it off and covering them with vegatation from the holes they're going in..I had 3 last year building 5 more this year..........JMO

I got this one year before last.. Didn't use it last year as we had plenty places to hunt with more than enough water.. Threw a little paint on it.. Will def use it this year

I have the Otter Predator XL Field Blind, with the cover. One of the best pieces of equipment I have. Light weight and very Durable. It's dry up to 18” of water, floats, makes a great skid for carrying equipment. I have had mine for 3 years and use it almost every day and never had an issue. Down side it is pricey but I think it was worth every penny.
