Cheap fun is taking the ferry over and back...$2.00, Eat at Dragos. Get off the beaten path to find the good food.
Re: Descending on NOLA - Oct 8-12
I can't think of NOLA without thinking of these:
Angelo Brocato's cannoli
Camellia Grill breakfast
Central Grocery muffuletta
There are many others but those are standards and none of them are expensive.

Hey Jeff. I would love to meet your new family additions! If teal season was open Oct 8-12 I would bug the hell out of you to take me.
I need to check my schedule as this is a guberment trip. We are touring the A3 Test Stand at Stennis and will also tour the Michoud Assembly Facility where they will build the Core Stage for the new heavy lift space launch system.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I appreciate your comments.

I think the Redfish Grill is just ok. The suggestions above are probably better.

Re: Descending on NOLA - Oct 8-12
I havent been to cochon the restraunt, but last time I was in town I stopped by the butcher shop and picked up some boudin and andouille on the way out of town. Pricey, but good. Looked like a good lunch was being served as well.
Redfish and Bourbon house are "OK" for food on Bourbon, but but certainly better around. Dragos is good, but not "frenchquarterish" if that makes sense. Lots of yankees hanging out in there that stay at the Hilton as well. Met some chaps from Utah on a batchelor party in there last time and they were amazed at southern life.

Southern Life amazes everybody who is from and lives above the Mason Dixon Line Vickers. It brings a sense of "Normalcy and Appreciation" for life that yankees never knew existed. As far as DT eats, most are tourist traps. Deannies gets my vote for seafood, especially their oysters. Dickie Brennans for a Steak. Court of Two Sisters for brunch. Jac Quimos for cajun/home cooking meals. Johnny's Poboys or Serios Deli for quick lunch. Hope that helps

For Classic Creole restaurants:
Galatoire's
Arnaud's
Commander's Palace
Antoine's
Mr. B's Bistro
Court of Two Sisters
My personal preference is Galatoire's with Commander's Palace a close, close second. I would go to at least one of these one of your nights.
I see you mentioned Redfish Grill. If you go, get the double chocolate chip bread pudding. GW Fins is good along the lines of Redfish Grill and I think is better than Redfish Grill. Go to Bourbon House to get you a boubon served neat. Get a Pappy Van Winkle. 15 year is my favorite.
Cochon is awesome. Got to have reservations here. Go with someone and order several of the small plates for you to share. Also, in the Warehouse District is Emeril's and Root. Root has been named NOLA's best new restaurant. Speaking of Emeril's, I think Emeril's Delmonico is his best restaurant.
Deanie's is good. I go all the time but go to the one in Metarie on Lake Avenue and not the one in the FQ. Get a few of the boiled crabs to start and get the BBQ Shrimp for your meal. Their fried seafood platters are good but the BBQ Shrimp is the best I've had in NOLA, and I've tried it all over. BBQ Shrimp was invented at Pascal's Manale, which has a really good raw oyster bar, and isn't nearly as crowded as Acme's. Also, in Metarie, is the best roast beef po-boy at R&O's which is right around the corner from Deanie's. You mentioned Drago's, go to the original in Metarie, get a dozen of the charbroiled oysters then go have dinner somewhere else. Those charbroiled oysters are fine, but not a big fan of the rest of their stuff.
If you like oyster po-boy's go to Casamento's in the Garden District. Nobody here can touch their oyster loaf. I like Parkway for Roast beef po-boys and really good shrimp po-boys. Tracey's also has really good po-boy's. People will tell you to try Parasol's for po-boys but I haven't had a good one there yet.
The hamburger is really good at Port of Call. They only serve them with loaded baked potatoes. Another must try lunch spot is Willie Mae's Scotch House. Great fried chicken. It lives up to the hype.
If you like wine, go to WINO's. You load money on a prepaid card then pick whatever wine you want to try and how much and the dispenser deducts money from your card.
Go see the Carousel Bar in the Hotel Monteleone. Order a Vieux Carre, it was invented here. As a history buff, the WWII museum is awesome. If you want to watch Thursday night football, go to Manning's. You can sit in leather chairs set up stadium style. The food is ok here though.
Someone mentioned Camellia's Grill. It is good, but go after you've been out drinking all night. You can get on the St Charles streetcar line and take it all the way to the end and you can't miss Camellia's. Note: The St Charles line was being worked on last week when I was there for work. Most people recommend Mother's for breakfast. It's good and a must try if you've never been, but my favorite breakfast spot is Surrey's on Magazine st.
I like to go to Freret street for the nightlife. Lots of Tulane students hang out here. Most bars here have good outdoor seating, and it's nice to get away from the FQ crowd.
Almost forgot, try any of the John Besh restaurants. The guy is a food genius. I like August the best.

Emeril's and Cochon are both right there on Tchoupitoulas within two blocks.
