Ask DS: Polaris Ranger aftermarket add - ons.

Postby southdeltan » Wed Nov 14, 2012 5:35 pm

My father recently bought a 2012 Polaris Ranger 500 (I think that's the model) and he's looking for an inexpensive aftermarket windshield. He's curious about the top, but says he has what he needs to make one. Also curious about shields for the radiator and brush guards for axles/etc.

Google PRC Forums. Great forum with sponsors that he should be able to find anything he is looking for.

+1 The flip out is great when the windshield is covered with mud.

Ive got a 500 with a polaris flip windsheild and polaris top. Thats just what the dealer had on hand at time of purchase but both work fine. Only problem with the windshield is that it is plexiglass and will scratch easily. I cant hardly see out of mine at times due to the scratches. I havent been in much mud, but have driven all over cutovers and tangles and havent had any boot damage. I dont have any protectors.

I highly recommend the fortress windshield and top. They don't make them for the 900 but I think they do for all the other models. The slide up/down one in the video is real nice. I've seen them on 3 different utv's and they all three loved them. They seem more durable than most brands.

Definatley go with the flip down! If I had a choice of whether my 500 had a full windshield now or none at all, I would choose none! Dew, fog, dust, cold wind, mud, limbs.... It'll be the best thing since sliced bread...... I choose a flip bc a windshield will dew/fog up, get muddy, and when it's hot you can fold it down to cool off! I just have the plastic roof but wish I had the diamond plate...... Have a 2" highlifter lift and a set of 27"swamplites on 14" ss212's..... My next add-on is a back windshield.... Dust seems to wrap around the winsgield and cloud in the cab without one and I've heard a back glass will solve the problem.....Enjoy your dads buggy.... I would choose the pOlaris 500 over ANY other utv on the market for what I use it for... I have a boX made for the back to haul my hog dogs in and a place that holds a small water cooler.... Bout to add a small storage box also to hold a cut kit/suture kit......

You can go on ebay and get a set of brackets that fit around the rollbar and get a piece of lexan (doesnt scratch as easy as plexiglass and can be drilled) for about 130$ instead of about 300$ which is the cheapest I've seen for one that flips down. Ijust bought a 2013 800 crew, absolutely love it! I've taken it through some nasty flooded timber already and it does pretty danged good

The fortress winshield and rear sliding glass ran 650 or so each. The top was a couple of hundred. The polaris brand front fold up/down, top, and rear sliding glass costs $1800. When comparing apples to apples, the Fortress was much better for the same money.

I have a light mounted on the back of the roof of mine. Comes in very handy when backing up at night or loading a deer in the back.
