Ask D/S scopes

Postby D1 » Sat Nov 24, 2012 6:30 pm

I have a friend who is wanting to put a tasco 3x9x40 scope on a NEF 45/70. I am telling him to spend some of his hard earned money and get a good scope. He/we hunt mostly thickets very seldom will the shot be more than 70 yards. Will it stay true or will it jump from the recoil that rifle has?
Thanks
Bruce

Your rifle is only as good as what's on top of it.

I would reccomend a Nikon, but if he wants something a little cheaper tell him to check out the weaver kaspa, $100 for a 3x9x40.

I'd rather have a cheaper gun than a cheap scope. Good scopes for the money with a lifetime warranty...Redfield Revenge (think Leupold bought them), Nikon Prostaff or Buckmaster, Vortex Diamondback

Nikon ProStaff!!!
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Got the Nikon prostaff on my 45-70 never had a problem with recoil knocking scope out of line. Not very expensive but does the job. Liked it enough to put one on my sons .243. Great little scope for the money.

Sportsmans Warehouse has a deal on a Burris right now. Its a 3-9x50 for around $150 after rebates. Got one to replace an old redfield on the .270.

Get a quality name brand scope. The ones mentioned above are all good. You get what you pay for. A cheap scope will let you down and you don't want to screw up on a wall hanger over a few dollars saved on a scope.

Had a friend that had one on his 7 mag and never had problem one. That was over 20 years ago so I'm sure quality has declined.

Yes good mounts and bases are equally important. A one-piece base will be a more solid mount.
