Could you shape a 2x4 to the contour of the top of the kayak, and bolt it on from the inside?
That's kinda what I have thought about on my bobcat boat. But, with a kayak paddle, I can scat with little work. So I figured that the 2x4 would just add weight I don't need.

im thinking, 2x4 on the underside (its a sit in), bolted to a pieced of angle that sits on top with a 2x4 mounted to the angle iron. Im going close to a mile one way!

what's wrong with paddling? I paddle about 3/4 mile one way just about every time I go.... and that's to hunt chitty public ground.

If you have rod holders, this is what I used. pvc in the rod holders and drilled 2 holes in the 2X3 and slide it over the pvc, then drilled holes in pvc just above the wood and slide clips through the pvc to hold wood in place. Seems to work pretty good.

i wish it did have some rod holders like that. luckily the water is dropping back out of this place pretty fast and I will be able to get to it on 4 wheeler by weekend probably

by the time you hook all the crap up, and then half way to your hole it goes to crap and you have to redo it, you will be better off using the paddle.

If you are not familiar with the boat I would be very cautious putting it under power in the dark. Don't forget, it'll need to be registered or in the process of registering if it's under power. Wear a lifejacket if you do decide to power it. Paddling is better anyway, grab a canoe paddle and jump shoot on the way out. Good excercise too. I have several holes that are a mile and a half plus to get to that very few mm's could dream of getting to, especially in low water. It ain't nothing for me to paddle 10-15 miles in a weekend,, or was nothing to it.
