Boat blind

Postby J_Cavey » Thu Dec 20, 2012 7:29 pm

What's the best duck boat blind. Got a gator Trax 16x50 with the hunt deck. So it's more like 17x50??

i bought an avery quick set.... i agree, cant beat it. It folds up nice, easy to use and sturdy. only problem i had with the thing is installing it. it says it take 2 hours, BULL!! the instruction manual is pretty bad, i would definitely suggest reading the entire manual before starting, or throwing it away!

love my avery--hunted 4 hours today in 30 degrees and 40 mph. cut the wind, kept us covered up, and we killed our ducks.
2 hour install is a lie. takes half a day anyway. also, over time the bungi cords need to be replaced.

So should I get a 14'-16' since the hull is 16x50.. The hunt deck is just an add on. So the motor sits off the back of the boat. Or should I get a 17'-19'??

I think it's actually 17'-8" 'cause we have a GTrax 16x50 Hybrid w/hunt deck. I think you would go with the 16' model (blind)and use a motor cover.

See link to Paddle and Push pole storage thread - I put a few photos of my homemade blind on there, too. As I said in the post, it is a little 'busy' and is not as easy or quick to set-up/take-down as MB-type or quick-set style blinds, but it's simple, cheap, roomy, and works pretty well for us. Best thing is it doesn't interfere with motor operation.

If I hadn't designed and built my own - I'da either considered a Mud Buddy-style blind or asked Bert to build one because he 'fits' it to your boat and takes special needs into consideration in the design and layout.

Bert Fleming blind is best. Custom made to fit your boat at same or better price as Avery. Also, Bert's blinds are sturdier.

Avery blind is designed based upon Bert's design.

Fleming's blinds are the best. IMO Very sturdy. Had mine bout 10 yrs. now. Get him to show you how to make camo fall straight into boat (when you drop your blind) to chase a cripple or whatever. Buy Avery blind material and camo yourself. Back then my frame on my 1654 was bout $350 I think
