.22 rimfire

Postby cmmj63 » Sun Jan 20, 2013 12:26 pm

I don't understand the run on .22's. I can see where someone might think that .223/.556 might become hard to get, but .22's. Heck, they even let them shoot that in England. The local 4H shooting team is having trouble finding it to practice, so I am giving them a couple of bricks. Hey, if any of you want to sell me a few bricks for the kids, PM me if your price is any where near reasonable.

There was mention of limiting the amount of ammunition that could be purchased at one time. So the rounds that most folks think of buying in bulk have gone throught he roof. .22, 9MM, .40, .45, .223, and even .308 are getting hard to find. This was buried in Fienstein's proposal somewhere. The logic, however, flawed it may be, is that if a person can't purchase the rounds, they can't commit mass murder.

Other things that have been proposed is taxing the chit out of ammo and reloading supplies to the point it's to expensive to shoot.

I think it will all settle down in 6 months. Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader, is a conservative Democrat from Georgia who doesn't want that on his head as he goes back for reelection. The house has already said they aren't doing anything unless the Senate sends them something. Obama knows it's a dead issue which is why he made the comments he made encouraging the public to contact their representatives when he signed the executive orders.

Harry Reid is from Nevada, and he isn't that conservative.

Sorry, brain fart there. Yes, he is from Nevada. But when it comes to gun control he is very conservative and has a long history with the NRA and gun rights. He is in a very tought spot. He is supposed to push Obama's legislation in the upper chamber. However, he also has to hold on to the majority. An all out assult, pardon the pun, on conservative Democrats who vote for gun control and there will be another turn as happend last time gun control was pushed.

I don't think this will go anywhere. At most I think we will see background checks which I don't really have a problem with.

Reid was in trouble in Nevada in 2010 until the NRA came in and helped him get reelected. In fact Reid used taxpayer funds to build an ultra modern gun range in Nevada.

The irony of this is Reid would not have won reelection but for the NRA. There's an old saying, "Never bite the hand that feeds you."

I agree that Reid is surprisingly conservative when it comes to gun control (B rating from NRA), and I also think a lot of this will blow over. I wouldn't mind a stricter background check procedure myself (depending on what it is), but I most certainly wouldn't welcome private sale background checks or requiring private sales go through an FFL. If the latter were the case, then that would mean gun registration would be required.

Sorry for the hijack cmmj63. Check your local walmart whenever you happen to be by there. Ours will occasionally get .22 and .223 (Oxford walmart had .223 as of yesterday), but you pretty much have to be there not long after they put it out.

Harry Reid is surprisingly a pro gun democrat. A lot of people in Nevada love their guns and Reid knows that. He isn't going to introduce anything in Senate that is going to compromise his re-election hopes and he knows that gun legislation will do just that.

Nevadans will put up with a lot of stupid liberal stuff, but they won't tolerate anyone restricting their guns.
