I just took a look at LSUs recruiting headed into 2014 signing day. To my surprise, they already have 5 commits, including three 4 stars and one 5 star. I cannot imagine the demands on these coaches as the recruiting season has no end now.

With the changes in the rules, the actual coaches will not have to do as much recruiting. They will still be the ones doin in home visits but other staff members will be doing a bulk of the calling and texting.

I know...which makes it even worse on rising young coaches. I cannot imagine being 28 years old, trying to raise a family and literally spending 100 hours per week trying to convince egomaniac 16-18 year olds that this is the school for you.

It is the name of the game though. Without the horses, you might as well not even race. I think Nick Saban is the best coach in the nation and probably the best college coach of all time...all things considered. People talk so much about the "Saban Process" and all that mess. What do all of Saban's national title teams have in common? A field full of NFL talent in the right answer...superior talent to everyone they play. That has almost nothing to do with the process and everything to do with recruiting.

All starting 22 on Saban's 2003 LSU title team played in the NFL, some are still in the NFL. They literally fielded an NFL football team that year. I would venture to guess the same will be true for all, or nearly all, of Saban's Bama title teams.

a bunch of schools are getting petitions or whatever trying to overturn these rules... including bama and some others. i forget how many was said to be needed but they were fast approaching the number. i think most every sec school was in agreement that they didn't like it.

Interesting question on sports talk radio I listened to yesterday...In reference to 8th grader in Baton Rouge being offered by Alabama over the weekend and having already received an offer from LSU...host posed the question; Would you allow your 8th grade son to sit down and be recruited like this? Considering highly influential celebrity status (ie. Miles/Saban) wowing your son and attempting to persuade him as an 8th grader?

My answer is not no, but heck no...no way, out of hand and kids need to grow up and be kids and have a lot to learn about things outside sports...they don't need to be made celebrity figures and persuaded by professional con men as 8th graders...hell even as 10th graders. My sons, summer before senior year before coaches are allowed that level of access (if they were to be recruited for any sports).

I agree but this kids parents are seeing nothing but dollar signs. That is why they are sending an 8th grader to camps with high schoolers.

Great News guys. I have just been hired by Ole Miss as its top football talent scout for pee wee football for the entire state of MS.

So, if you are aware of any young pee wee football lads, aged 12 and under, who are showing great promise, run sub 5 second 40s, with good explosion and vertical leaps, please let me know. We'll start their recruiting profile, complete with game film and combine stats, and start getting them to the appropriate summer camps at Ole Miss (and maybe elsewhere, but doubtful).

I have seen some video of a young girl dominating peewee football, you may want to make her your first target. She could be the first heisman/ miss America winner.
