Renfroe's high school coach was on Jackson Sports Talk this am. Pretty interesting stuff. One story in particular was pretty funny:

Renfroe was a catcher all the way through high school - had apparently never pitched. His senior year, he talked his coach into letting him pitch in relief against his rival, Hillcrest. Hillcrest has a radar gun on their scoreboard that shows pitching speed. On his third warm-up pitch he hit 95 mph. The Hillcrest coach made the scoreboard operator turn off the pitch speed function so as to prevent his players from being scared.

He also said something else amazing, considering he is no longer a catcher. His pop time (pop of glove - throw - 2nd base pop) was in the 1.80 to 1.85 second range. My understanding is that major league catchers typically range from 1.7 to 1.9 with some outliers a little faster.

He is a very special kid with off the chart tools.

He is the highest drafted everyday player to ever play for state right behind Will Clark. That's pretty impressive IMO

I think he will be in the majors in under two years. His power will actually probably translate better with a wood bat than the crap they are using right now in college. If I am not mistaken, he hit 19 HRs last summer with wood bats...setting the league record. I think he will be a yearly .270+ hitter with potential to be a 25+ HR guy to go along with potential gold glove level defense. He could be a star in the league if he continues to progress and stays healthy.
