Where are some good places to kayak in north Mississippi? I'm wanting to try out the new kayak this weekend.

luxapilila creek in columbus is really good as well as the budahatchie, put in the lux off 12 and kayak it all the way to the tombigbee park where creek meets the tenn tom

the one north of west point is weather dependent on getting to it....4x4 a plus, truck/suv a must (car usually won't navigate ruts in road, even when dry)

Tishomingo state park does canoe float trips on bear creek; you could contact them to see if you could use your own kayak and do it. about a 6 mile float i think.

It's a bad time of the year for Starkville. During spring there are tons of places we float, fish and camp on in the immediate area of Starkville. Get at me around that time, I am always trying to find somebody to get outside with and do something.

It is legit and will really help you plan a trip.

I'll second the book Canoeing Mississippi. It is a must have for planning a trip on a creek in another part of the state you aren't familiar with.

the buttahatchie always has water in it and good flows, plus there are multiple places to get in and out of it. be very cautious on it with chances of rain cause it will rise quickly in a major rain. the one north of west point is not recommended, unless there has been lots of work on it, its full of log jams and is really muddy when it flowing good. it will get to the point where its not enough water when its dry.

true, i guess i should've said it's seasonal. was in a camp nearby and in summer we dropped into creek (chuquatonchee - 'chick-a-tawn-chi' or 'chuck-a-tawn-chi') through ditch mouth on our camp and rode to that bridge on dry sand bottom. winter and early spring it floods out and runs swift (dangerous swift at times), but that also keeps log jams blown out. they'll build back up by late spring/early summer with gully washer rains, so there's a window of uninterrupted voyage...later you go in summer, the less fun it will be. work on it is rare and may even be funded by adjoining landowners when issues arise, since it is a defunked coe project.
