Looking for a new floating shotgun case. Any thoughts on which brand is better or to stay away from. I'd really prefer one that will open all the way down the side to dry out. Thoughts?

They all blow a hole out in the barrel end, so get what ever one you don't mind replacing later. I like the drake, but mine has a hole in the barrel end.

drake isn't as prone to get a hole in the end as the avery one. but the drake will tear up too. my drake is torn on the inner liner where the chamber meets the barrel.

if you get more than a season out of one, you've done well. or at least that's my experience.

I have a final approach it's 3/4 Velcro down and has held up pretty good been using it for 3 yrs now but in 3 yrs it still hasn't been used a full season yet

I have the Final Approach inside edge case and have been HARD on it for two years and its holding up really well. Its been thrown in and out of boats, on the rhino, and carried through thick nasty brush and still looks new after spraying it off.

I would put my duck gun in the case and throw it in the water-pool-lake the first day I purchased.

Some don't float heavy guns. Some floating keychain dealios don't float either,

Some modified chokes aren't modified. I could go on.

Before I recommended a gun case, I went and researched a bit on the interweb.

Per usual, the older I get, whatever I would recommend has long since been discontinued.

Macks Prairie Wings used to have their own brand of gun case that contained large square blocks of floatation. Not only would it float, it would float horizontal on the water and the thickness provided lot's of protection. The case was more squared up looking than slim or round. And it has lasted about 18 years and still going. Honestly, I think it was made by Avery with a "Macks" embroidered patch stuck on it. This will float an Ithaca Mag 10 or a Model 12, 3", 30" gun.

The 2013 Avery does not look the same.

Some cases will "float" but may float barrel down with just the butt of the gun case showing. Hard to find in the dark.

When guns go ka-sploosh without the gun case, don't forget to drop a decoy to mark the spot and go get a damn good magnet. Ask how I know, we got the gun back though.

Ive had a Drake case for 5-6 years now, no problems at all.

+1 that Drake floater has done the job well but has a hole in the end.
