Been itching to buy a 20. Uses for dove, maybe quail and ducks

Can't justify paying 2500 dollars on something I'd consider a toy. More or less I'm not at the stage to own one right now per income.

Wanting something that will last thou.

Don't care for stoegers. Nothing wrong w/ them just don't care for them.

Wanting selectable trigger, ejectors, & 28 or 30 inch barrel. Would like nice wood and like I said one that will last.

Can't afford a perrazi. Wouldn't mind buying used.

What do y'all recommend and where should I start looking?

Look at the Yildiz at Academy. Got the 410 o/u for my son, he's 2, so he can't shoot it yet. Took my wife to the Willows with it and she shot it well (picking closer shots). It swings well, selectable trigger, ejectors, it's pretty, and was about $400ish.

Tom, you might look on GunsAmerica and find a new or used Citori Gran Lightening 20. They fitted the GL with select wood (grade 6) and are really a well balanced pleasant shooting gun in the small gauge.

I'm partial to 'pretty' wood on a gun.

I believe you could negotiate this one a bit......it says NIB (new in box), but then it also points-out a nice flaw in the buttstock finish. I would start at $1650. The finish can be repaired. I know a guy that can slick it up for you and make it like new.

I owned a Beretta 686 20 ga for many years - great gun! Plenty of gun for duck hunting and even dropped a Speck from 60 yards once while shooting Bismuth (when it first came out). The gun was smooth, light and actually appreciated in value over the 7-8 years I owned it. Mine was the 686 model (blued receiver), the 686 Onyx is beautiful as well - only a bit higher in price. I agree - the 686 would be another excellent choice with a variety of wood and engraving grades in your price range.

Not sure about you, but when I purchased, I was not interested in all of the "Off Brand" names. I considered it an investment of sorts, and much like a fine piece of furniture. Stick with the Beretta's and Browning's. The Citori's seemed a bit bulky to me personally, the Beretta was a natural fit - smaller and more precise.

Me and a buddy both have the Yildiz in 20 ga and we both love them. They are light weight and I have never had a minutes trouble with mine.....owned it about 8 years now. I've shot plenty of doves with it and quail hunted with it but it was bought mainly for rabbit hunting and it has killed a ton of those. If you are wanting to spend a little more though, the CZ's are very nice guns for the money.

Another Vote for Yildiz...They are bad to the bone for the money

I am not an expert on these guns but I was told today that CZ is a good one to consider for o/u.

I own both a Yildiz and a CZ in 20 gauge. The CZ has right handed cast off and I shoot left handed. Didn't notice it when I bought it. It does affect my shooting. The Yildiz has no cast off and I shoot it much better, but it is a lighter gun. My son complained about the Yildiz recoil and bought a good recoil pad for it but still doesn't like it, so I got it back . The recoil doesn't bother me. No problems with either gun but the Yildiz costs about half of the CZ's price. My 2 cents.

They are a lot of gun for the money, just watch out for the Skeet/Skeet guns, there are many of them and you may not want something that open for duck.

I agree with you on the stoegers. For the money it is a great little gun. I have a 20 o/u that is hell on doves and clays. But if you don't like it than keep on looking no sense in settling for something you don't want. My advice shoot some if you can. Find what feels good to you. Then if it is not in your price range just wait and save a little while. You will be glad you did.

If you are looking for a new one, Beretta or Browning if you can swing the money. The CZ's have the best reviews in the $1000 range. Plus they look pretty good too. I personally would check out the Citori or Beretta and find which fits better for you. Then try an find a used one. The only reason I have a Beretta Silver Pigeon II was because it was a gift. And I LOVE that gun.
