I have recently moved to the Horn Lake area and am trying to find my way. I can't think of a better source to ask advise than my feather hunting brethren. Just a few questions
1. Where's a great steak?
2. I have enrolled my son In what was SBEC which is now Northpoint Christian School and would like some feedback.
3. Where is a good place to worship? ( I moved from Brandon and went to Pine Lake. I really miss Chip)
4. What are some good golf locations?
5. Does anyone like to shoot sporting clays?
I'm sure I will get some great feedback from all the good ole boys. I can't thank y'all enough for the insight.
Feel free to contact me by PM or 618-304-0856
Thanks Tripp

1. Chain- Longhorn or Texas Roadhouse. Feel like driving a little, go down to Como Steakhouse.
2. IDK about Horn Lake churches.
3. I've heard nothing but good about SBEC, except they changed their name.
4. Try North Creek or Tunica National.
5. I don't, but The Willows at Harrahs is supposed to be good.

My wife and I used to go to First Baptist Church Olive Branch and really loved it there.

Steak, you will probably have to drive south to Como, or go north into Memphis. I've heard good things about the Chop House in Southaven, but
I've never actually been so take it with a grain of salt.
Can't help you with church or the other questions. I would advise asking someone at the school. They can probably point you to several to try out.

1. Folk's Folly in Memphis is probably one of the best around.
2. Can't help much there, but at least you knew better than go the public school route. They have changed quite a bit since I graduated up there.
3. Don't know your Worship preferences, but a great place to learn about the word is New Bethlehem Presbyterian. Dr. Haughton is one of the best teachers of the word I have ever met.
4. Stay away from North Creek on the weekends. Gets frustrating with all the Tiger Woods wannabes there. Go to Wedgewood or Tunica National.
5. The Willows at Harrahs is great for shooting.
I grew up in Horn Lake, and my family all still lives there. Shoot me a PM if you have any other questions.

We like Texas RoadHouse and Memphis BBQ Co...the china buffet next to Home Depot is good,,,GREAT sushi selection. The ChopHouse is very good, sit AWAY from the stage. Binions steak house at the Horseshoe is killa beef and where we go for special occasions. We put our son in the horn lake public school system when we moved here and he was in the first grade... has turned out ok...we have since moved to Walls and he goes to the lake cormerant high school and he likes it. The Willows is awesome. Merimichi has good golf in Millington. Fishing at Arkabutla has been good lately...slow troll live minnows. Welcome to the area

Along with The Willows, there's a new sporting clays range associated with the Desoto Rifle and Pistol club (google it) down in Como. If you're into shooting it would be a nice place to go to shoot rifles, pistols, and shotguns. SBEC (Northpoint) is an excellent choice. Churches...try several until you find a place that you feel "home". Golf...try BACC down in Senatobia, it's actually only about 4 miles from the gun range. Steak..Como steakhouse comes highly recommended, I LOVE Texas Roadhouse personally.

-I would avoid folks folly. Go to Flemings or the chophouse if you wanna spend some money. The chain places in Southaven are alright on a budget. Binions and como are legit as well. Have a DD for the como trip.
-I would avoid the public schools
-dunno about churches in that area. Holler if you want to church it up in memphis I know more up there.
-work and hunt to much to have time for golf
-the willows is nice. I've just throw em for myself around my place.

1. Nothing wrong with the typical chain steakhouses, but go to Como Steakhouse as others have mentioned for a good steak. Chop House isn't too bad either.
2. Got a buddy with a son at Northpoint. He says it's good. Dont dismiss the public schools in Desoto County though. For those who are saying avoid them, Desoto schools are 10th or 11th in the state.
3. Not familiar with churches around there
4. Don't play golf, I hunt or fish
5. The Willows as mentioned, and Desoto Gun Club between Senatobia and Como. Just shot there recently and they have a good sporting clays course.

Lots of choices for steaks in the area
SBEC is quality just small. Lots of people left there when DeSoto Central opened - because there were similar values in public schools . My kids went through the public school system. DeSoto County schools are top notch.
There is a church on every corner in DeSoto County. Visit around.
There are three quality golf courses in Olive Branch. Cherokee Valley, Plantation and Wedgewood. Northcreek in Southaven is a good course. The course at Sardis is excellent and a challenge. definitely worth the drive. Kirkwood in Holly Springs is awesome. You will have to hit around the deer and turkeys that visit the fairways often.
Yep, go shoot the Willows...

Desoto County schools were nice when I went there 15 years ago, but things change... Especially when Memphis City Schools merged with Shelby County.

Are the folks leaving Memphis not aligned with your values? Just curious, as it appears to me that the good folks (albeit some are city folks) are leaving and the less than desireables are staying, in the city of Memphis that is.

Not so. My mother, girlfriend, and sister Are all teachers at a Desoto County high school. Trust me, it is definitely not the same.

It seems like it has gotten worse recently though. I don't know if the merger had anything to do with it or not. Come to think of it though, there's been an influx of Memphis rejects for years according to my family members. My mother was called a b!tch by one of her students the other day (good thing I wasn't there) and another time this year she had $20 stolen from her purse while it was in her desk. When I went to that school we enjoyed about a 90% majority. Now the percentage has reversed and most are Memphis rejects.
