What's the best way to reproof a jacket that doesn't envolve spending $100+ sending back for reproofing?

Elbow grease!

Get a little shop towel and put the jacket outside on the tailgate or a table on one of these warmer sunny days and let the jacket kind of get warm and get some filson wax(probably take 2 cans for a whole jacket) and dab some on and work it in.

BINGO! I like to let the wax get a little warm too. Easier to work with. But be careful not to use too much at one time. A little wax will go a long way, plus you don't want one bug dark spot of wax.

When done put it in a black garbage bag tie it up throw it in the sun.

What does that do? Let it "marinate" into the fabric? I have been letting my stuff just air dry in the back yard in the sun.

Ah, that "new wax smell."

I use an old tooth brush on all the seams. Seems to get the wax in the stitching a little bit better.

Thanks guys. Didn't figure it was rocket surgery, but wanted some tips from someone that had done it before I ruin a nice jacket.

You can do it inside with a hair dryer but that takes a bit more time. I like the plastic bag idea.

How often should you do this? Once a year?

Every other year is what I've always done.

Man. y'all really take care of your Filson stuff!!! I've got a tin cloth packer hat that I love. And one of the big reasons is because it continues to take tons of abuse from this wayward traveler, with nothing more than a brush to knock the big dirt off of it.
