Me and a few other buddies plan on hunting geese on opening day when it opens but the problem is we have no decoys. We go out there early mornings and afternoons to scout and hundreds of geese fly over our land we have permission to hunt but they are all high flyers. Ive always been told that you can use white walmart bags or trash backs steaked to the ground for decoys. I think it will work but have any of yall tried it? Would i just steak em to the ground? How would i go along doing this? Thanks for any help!

What kind of geese? There are 3 different kinds in MS on a regular basis all 3 require a different hunting tactic.
By mentioning shopping bags I assume you are talking about snow geese. If you aren't in a field they are feeding in most of the time it's a waste of time to try and decoy them. However if you feel so inclined shopping bags don't work very well, wind socks do, but you need to have upwards of about 700 to really work well. Also need some shells/full bodies to mix in then SOMETIMES they will work. Really best way to shoot snows is to creep them, or to hunt them in a fog. Calling doesn't do a heck of a lot of good on them.
THe opposite is true on specks and canadas, you can have a good call and no decoys and kill them.

They are Canadians. Every now and then a few specks will fly over but mostly just Canadians

Wal mart bags have never worked for me went to field that was covered with snows for 4 days straight put 1000+ Wally bags out geese would start to come in then turn into rockets straight up when seen bags, the next day after bags picked up they where back in the field

For Canadas learn to blow a short reed and break it over just right and get about a dozen full bodies. Should be good as long as it's not resident ones they get wise to hunting pretty quick. Migratory not as fast.

Even with canadas, if you're not where they want to be, you can put out all the decoys you want and call until your lungs collapse and they will keep going. Find them feeding the evening before and be at the exact spot they leave from the next morning with your set up.
