Is it typical for a school to threaten to take away a scholership from a kid thats commited to them if he takes offical visits to other schools?Read in the CL the other day where a kid from Tunica that commited to MSU was threatened with having his scholy offer taken back if he visited SO MS. on his last offical visit. He said he was still commited to State but was going on the visit and if State pulled his offer it would just show him they did'nt really want him.I think this is kinda shady of the school or should I say the coaching staff.

Pretty sure there have been a few instances of this happening at MSU.

Mullen has taken this stance since arriving in Starkville.
In his eyes: "committed" means "committed." Don't say you're committed to a school, then run off and play around for a weekend with the other guys. In my opinion, a commitment is only as good as a man's word. Seems like nowadays "commitment" means nothing. You can do whatever you want, visit as many schools as you want, see where you fit, and party until you drop, BUT once you commit to me, then you're off the market and you gave me your word that we're getting in bed together.
There are a lot of things Mullen does that I question, but I agree with this. Recruiting has turned into nothing but a bunch of attention mongering prima donnas that don't know the value of trust and don't understand what giving your word means.
That being said, I think it's all a smoke show and a joke. I don't read into any of it until they have signed and have been admitted.
Just my .02

I see what your saying but look at this way.The kid said before the trip to SMU that he was still totaly committied to State he was just going because he could who can blame the kid or anybody else for taking thats offered at no cost.Where mabey it should change is the other school's that offered like SMU should pull their offical visit after the kid publicly commits to another school.I pull for both OM and State so this aint a jab at State but seem' like Mullen might be scared he'll lose commitment if they see other places.

can't much argue with what you've said. you're spot on. but dapper dan pick and chooses who he enforces the "committed" rule of thumb on. its a situational deal. not knocking it, becuase usually those guys are the high profile type kids that any and everyone wants on their team.

Saban has a rule for those that have committed verbally. "You shop, we shop." Makes perfect sense.

didn't see one person "calling them out" for shady/negative recruiting tactics.
on a side note: How's probation for those recruiting violations?

I pull for both OM and State so I was'nt really calling them (State) out was just wondering if this was common policy at all school's.State just happen's to be the school that I'v read about doing it,last yr it was the Jones kid now agin this yr with the kid from Tunica.

They just need to create a an early signing period.

+1
There needs to be an August early signing period so that kids that commit can be left alone to play ball their senior season and coaching staffs can quit worrying about fending off the wolves at the gate around their commits (or signees in this case). You can then have a secondary signing deadline in February.

It would definitely solve a lot of problems. When Saban is pushing for it you know it could really help. He can lose a commit at last minute and still replace them with a solid player so I don't think it helps the top programs as much as it would help the mid tier programs.

the answer to all this is 100% relative to how good or important the recruit is to the school in question...in every case...
