Anybody go to the games this past weekend? Any pro's?...con's? Seems like they played a lot better. Not sure about the quality of Michigan State and E. Illinois but anytime you can play 6 games in a week and win em all, it can't be bad. I had to work fri and sat so didn't get to keep up with em that much but followed some of the play by play on twitter some yesterday afternoon.

Last night was #7 in a row for the diamond dogs! For a team that started off 4-4, Cohen must've lit a fire under a few because 11-4 sure looks a lot prettier.

Trying to make sense of our 4 losses (W. Carolina, Holy Cross (2), Memphis)...
Did see where Western Carolina beat (at the time #18)Clemson the other night and Memphis beat Ole Miss the other night. These were really no pushover teams. Still kinda scratchin my head on the 2 Holy Cross losses though...
Seems pitching has been a lot better during this 7-game streak. Just hope the bats and defense continue to pick up.

Baseball is a finicky sport. Sometimes I think it takes a a little time for a team to gel and mesh. Hopefully they are working the kinks out in the early season and will head into May with a full head of steam. Playing much better this last week, and it pays to have a short memory in this sport.

Was at the DH on Saturday. Ross Mitchell pitched a gem in game 2. Timely hitting and good defense was a pleasure to watch. Bulldogs seemed to have some get-up-and-go in them the second game where as the first we seemed to not have any urgency about us. Give Arkie credit for turning a lot of double plays in the first game and no clutch hitting by the Bulldogs. On a side not, I know I have seen Van Horn coach 3B when watching SEC baseball on TV, yet he was not coaching 3B Saturday.

The only "fix" is we need to hit the baseball! We certainly pitched it and played well enough defense in the first 2 games to find a win. Ross, who normally fields his position very very well let a DP get away from him on mishandling the ball. I have liked Lindgren and hope to see him get some start time. COhen never has forgiven him for the curve ball he threw Katz a year ago.

Well I must say I enjoyed myself last night in Pearl

A solid pitching performance from some younger guys was what we needed to conserve our bullpen for the quick turn around this weekend. Seems like we finally hit the ball a little better last night too. Rea came out of his slump a little and ended up getting the MVP. I was worried about that Orvis kid but was happy to see him K twice.
There were a ton of folks there last night for both sides. Think they announced it as just shy of 8500.

Bulldogs are missing Adam Frazier very very much. He got us off to an early start in so many games last season. Getting an early lead is huge with these low scoring/dead bat/manufacture a run type of games. Renfroe in the lineup helped Wes Rea more than we understood at the time. Could not pitch around those folks when you had both in the lineup. Instead now we have Rea not seeing many fast balls and is swinging at bad breaking pitches, alot like his freshman year. His confidence is down even though he seems to hide it well. Pirtle, Detz, Heck, and Armstrong are all scrappy at the plate, but for whatever reasons we can not string their hits together. We have to be leading the league in men LOB. The freshman catcher is locked on but with little support either side of his hits, it seems null and void. Can this team get it going? I am starting to doubt. Only thing that really makes you cling to hope is the super regional team that lost last game down at Florida a few years back. That MSU team was batting around .240 if I am not mistaken. Better defense and pitching that year, but this MSU team can potential wise hit better than that team. If Caleb Reed is not completely worn out we go to CWS that year....think we were 6 or 9 outs away. Anyway.....saying all of that, we better keep ourselves in the post-season bunch of teams and hope we can catch a shooting star when we get there. Enough talent to do that, but not sure we have the focus or drive.
