beaver dam

The river is starting to fall fast and I'm gonna' bust a few beaver dams to improve the habitat. It's gonna' be a fast late drawdown if I am successful.

What's the chances for any success for moist soil plants with this late of a drawdown? Will probably sling millet and milo just cuz I like to.

Will take a hoe, shovel, and a chainsaw. Does anybody have any other tool ideas? Don't want to use explosives.

It sure does get hot when you want to start working.

my favorite is a potatoe rake, and a sling blade. the sling blade cuts all the vegitation up and then pull it out with the rake!

like buckshot said, a potatoe rake works well, so does a garden rake. All depends on how loose the soil is. If a tiller is an option it wouldnt hurt either.

A sling blade aint gonna do me any good, but I'll throw a potato rake in the truck. Thanks for the idea.

Years ago, I wanted a beaver dam in this one place and put down a bunch of cypress 3 X 6 and 16 feet long. Well it worked and that thing is a solid wall of dirt and cypress logs. Those babies are still in there. I tried to bust it once with hand tools and it was impossible. The beavers would patch up my tiny holes within an hour during daylight if I left the sight. That's why I'm taking the chainsaw.

A person just can't go to the local hardware store and buy some little sticks of dynomite anymore can they. I heard you can take urea and diesal and put it in a pixie cup with a long fuse and pack it in and it would blow a hole. What would you make a fuse out of and would it work? I would definetly want a 10 foot fuse. Makes my knees shake just thinking about it.

You have to be licensed to purchase dynamite now. You also have to purchase "storage lockers" for the dynamite also and THEY AIN'T CHEAP ! I have lined up a dam blastin' for Saturday morning. Let me know if you need some contacts to take 'em out.

How much to blow three dams near Augusta, AR? I'm doing mine Saturday as well and will keep at it till nightfall on Monday if needed.

I did know you needed a license to cross state lines with that stuff or it was a federal offense. When I was a kid every farmer had some and they got it at the local hardware store.

If I found someone with a license where do they get it now and how much is it?

I think that potato hoe and chainsaw and a little deet will work. Gonna' be fun tryin. Getting wet and muddy and watching out for moccasins, beats a day in the office.

I aslo figure if I ever get that water running it will make the job easier.

Thinking to start at the lowest dam first and work my way up to the highest tier.

Also thinking to make the hole in the deepest area of water along the dam. That'll make it more fun, heheheheehe.

Wheres Benny when you need him.

kenapack, is an explosive, equall to dynamite, any one can buy it, you just need to be set up for it. like have primer cord, blasting caps, blaster, and wire. the stuff isn't explosive untill you mix it, so they can ship it on aups truck to your door. can get a sourse for you that are interested

If you can get hold of some caps, use sodium nitrate and desiel fuel. Drop the cap in, back up a hundred yards, and shoot it with that .22 cal you'll be carrying for them movin sticks.
