This week...

This week seems to be the time both of our MS teams face their toughest challenges of the year. MSU survived the daunting task of Death Valley at night, even if it's a mediocre LSU team, it's still a tall glass of water to go there and win at night. State does not match up well with A&Ms passing game but Arky showed us they may struggle against a balanced rushing attack. Hopefully Dak will be the X factor and give them the win.
Mr Wallace has some demons to shed before Saturday. Their defense played flawless but the Memphis D had their number pretty much all night except for a few plays. Turnovers would have lost them the game against any team in the west I believe. If OM offense can get started they have a chance to keep it close with their defense. If the wrong Bo shows up it's not even gonna be close I don't think.
Both fan bases will be way more educated on their team by Sunday morning, and both games should be another indicator if they can compete for the west or not.

I think that one of the two will likely win (70% chance). I think that it is possible that both win (20%). I think that both games will be very competitive.
That said, I think there is a greater likelihood that Ole Miss wins than State. The reasons:
(1) Playing at 11:00 really minimizes home field advantage in my opinion and that will hurt State;
(2) Ole Miss has the best defense in the country IMO and that will bode well against Bama;
(3) State's biggest weakness just so happens to be aTm's biggest strength;
(4) Like State was due to beat LSU, I think Ole Miss is simply due to beat Alabama.
My prediction:
Ole Miss wins 27-24 on a late FG as time expires.
State loses 38-31 but is driving to tie it up at the end.
**I hope both in-state schools beat their opponents like they owe them money, but I don't think that will or can happen.

I know three things:
Arkansas exposed A&M and I hope and pray(we are state you know) that we figure out how to exploit them.
Alabama is good several layers back, that is their strong point
Its going to be a good day watching football next saturday.

DMud77, replies to your predictions:
>1 TAM is on the road, and has gotta get up just as early, too.
>2 UM defense is good, but really hasn't had to defend against any good offenses.
>3 I agree....but State really improved in that area against LSU.
>4 Saying anyone is "due" to win a football game in the SEC West is like saying, "I'm "due" for a colonoscopy."....win or lose, you're still gonna get an aazz-reeming.

Fair enough - My rebuttal:
1. There is a reason why all SEC schools try to schedule home conference games 2:30 and after (there is also a reason State fans were mad at this time slot). The game being so early will hurt the atmosphere and a lesser atmosphere can hurt the team;
2. I don't care who they have played, that defense is nasty and talented - if you combined the Bama and Ole Miss rosters, OM would have the majority of defensive starters IMO - think about that for a second;
3. State gave up 140 yards passing in the last 4 minutes of game time and two touchdowns to LSU - the same QB they "defended" so well in Jennings was 2-5 for 11 yards with two INTs and a fumble against New Mexico State this past weekend, the QB that threw for 140 on State has led LSU on TD drive 10 of the last 11 drives he has been on, with the only non-scoring drive being the Hail Mary at the end of the State game. Point being, the LSU game really only proved how good your run defense and your offense can be. Trust me, you are going to give up a lot of passing yards this weekend.
4. I concede that point...though you must admit that having lost 14 times in a row to LSU, you had to feel like you were due

. I don't think Ole Miss has beaten Bama since Eli was playing and have only won a handful of times against Bama in the last 30 years. If a team can be "due", it is Ole Miss just like State two weeks ago.

i started to post a seperate thread but decided this post would work for here.
I hate state, i hate state with a passion and i wish they would loose every game they play for the rest of the year. Now, that being said. I couldn't be more proud of Mississippi. What Ole Miss and state have done so far this year, within both programs, has elevated both schools for the national exposure they have both been begging for. Both teams are getting looks from across the confrence and country. Both teams will have all eyes nationally on the state of mississippi. For the first time ever, both schools have started the season 4-0, and both teams are ranked in top 25 in over 15 years. I hope both schools represent themselves well on the national stage this weekend, on and off the field. I also wish most of the ole miss faithful would shut the hell up, we have $#!+ the bed way to many times over the years in these type situations, and state has as well. lets go out on the field, win the games and the rest will take care of itself.
hotty toddy, and go AGGIES

I've got a bad feeling that there will be some bad publicity in Oxford Sat with the Gameday crew there.

if there's some POS holding up some garbage ass sign at an entrance to campus with racial overtones, as much as i hate "@#$%#" cheeseburgers, i may have to crack him in the head with a whiskey bottle.

I hope I'm wrong, but I see a Gameday set with in the background confederate flags, stupid signs about the old south, and whistling dixie.

Hahaha....speaking of Whistlin' Dixie, I got this in an email, this morning:
"""One day, a gentile Southern lady was driving across a high bridge in Georgia, and as she neared the top of the bridge, she noticed a young man preparing to jump.
She stopped her car, rolled down the window and said, "Please don't jump! Think of your dear mother and father."
He replied, "My mom and dad are both dead; I'm going to jump."
She said, "Well, think of your sweet wife and precious children."
He replied, "I'm not married, and I don't have any kids."
She said, "Well, then you can just sing Dixie .."
He replied, ''What's Dixie ?''
She replied, ‘’Well, bless your heart, you just go ahead and jump, you little Yankee Democrat turd, you're holding up traffic!"""

I'm pretty sure they audit the signage for PC.
But even if they let some of those slip through, it's our heritage so what's the problem?
