The guy with the school is done building them for the year. I need something 4x6 or 6x6. Don't want to pay 2k for a stand, would like to keep it under $800 or so. I just need the actual shooting house, I already have a platform built. Found some on craigslist in Southhaven that I could probably modify to make a little nicer but just wanted to see what other options were out there. Thanks

Why don't you build one yourself? Couple of 12' 4x4s cut in half used for the corners of the blind, use wood screws to attach 1/2 plywood to the sides, and use 3/4 plywood for the roof and floor throw in a couple of 2x4 bracing for the inside walls a few hinges for a door and that thing will last you 10 years.. Should be less than $200.00. If you get the store to cut the plywood for you takes about 30 minutes to put together..

Takes me 2-3 hours total

Jig saw. But if you get the measurement layed out before hand then a place like Home Depot can cut the plywood for you and all you have to do is screw the thing together. Just have strip of plywood across the top of the blind have have a single wide window all the way across. FYI. It makes it a lot easer if you build a 4'x4' one man or a 4'x8' two person blind..

If you use treated 4x4 posts for the corner posts and 3/4 plywood for the floor and roof or a tin roof, they will last a very long time. You can use the cheaper wafer board for the sides if you want and just unscrew them and replace them every 5 years or so..

Usually I build them 5' or 6' inside height. If I want a raised blind I use 4 4x4x12 treated posts and that puts the blind 6' off the ground.. Or if I want a ground blind then I just cut the 4x4x12 in half

If you build a 4'x4' blind that sits 6' off the ground you can screw some 2"x6"x6' at the base of the blind. If you don't want to jig saw the windows, then make the inside height 5' and have a 8' sheet of plywood ripped into a 1'x8' piece and a 3'x8' piece. Use 3' foot piece for the bottom of the sides and use the 1 foot accross the top leaving a 1' gap all the way acrross the blind as a window. You can use some camo burlap to hand in the windows to help conceal..

You will need to put in a few 2"x4" along the bottom of the windows for stability and on 8' widths may need some underneath the floor and a center brace in the walls...

I dont see how they get enough people conned into buying these expensive box stands they sell now days to keep the doors open.... but they do!!

I'm definitely not spending the $1000+ on a Redneck Blind or anything like that. I was looking at cheaper options before building one. Doesn't have anything to do with being lazy and I may still end up building one but my weekends are booked until gun season starts with other crap that takes priority over deer stands so I was looking for options.

You can use the hurricane tie downs that spin into the ground and attach with cable, or at the base of the blind put some base extension boards. Say your bulding a 4'x4' blind then just put 4 2"x6"x6' boards around the base.
Flush one end with the 4x4 post and let it extend 2' past the other one. Then do the same thing with the other 3 2"x6" boards. So essentially you have and extra 2 feet of 2"x6" on the ground at each corner.. It of course has to be level ground, and works good as long as you are not going over about 6 foot off the ground.

The little squares are the 4x4 posts.. The long black lines are the 2"x6"x6' attached to the bases of the 4x4 with screws..
