Looking for a good tax attorney to help out a friend that owes the IRS. Initial amount was 48k and he now owes 110k because of penalties and interest. Thanks in advance for the help.

Nothing like a 'good' attorney to keep from paying a debt you owe.........

He may not actually owe that much. If you're not aware the IRS does screw up from time to time. Been there done that and it's not picnic dealing with them. Second Trip Barnes. His firm is one of our clients and he is great at what he does. David Lynch learned under Trip but doesn't have nearly the experience of Trip due to his age. Do you know what the guy is going through or his situation, or are you just being a peepee? I don't think he his trying to find a "good" attorney to get out of his debt.....I would assume he is trying to get some relief from the brutal interest they charge, azzho1111eee!!!
Re: Ask DS....Tax Attorney?
Tell him to first try and find a good CPA to help him.... will usually get the same results but not always. If they do then it will be at a much lower rate. Just my .02

I assume he had or has a cpa since he owes so much. My wife is one and sees this play out a lot. People make a bunch of money and know they have to pay taxes on the money made but spend it instead of putting it aside to pay taxes later. Most live above their means and put off paying taxes till oct 15. Even then many can't come up with what is owed and are stuck with penalties and taxes. They can try and negotiate a settlement in some cases because the irs wants something. Problem is without knowing his situation it could be a nightmare for a new cpa to try and figure out and he may actually owe more if it is done correctly especially if he attempted to do it himself. Agreed cpa is more RESONABLE in price but many probably don't wanna touch it. With the said amount due he has let this go for some time for penalties and taxes to get it to that figure.

I hate to tell you this, but no. It doesn't either.skywalker wrote:...from 48k to 110k takes some time......
Nobody owes you anything.
Re: Ask DS....Tax Attorney?
I see it everyday as well but not necessarily does it mean he has a CPA. One can be document matched and received an IRS notice in the mail stating what they arbitrarily assess him, and penalty and interest on $48k can build up really fast. I know the nightmare it can be, trust me. Im just trying to offer up the fact that if he does not have a CPA he needs to find one of those first. Reason for the assumption on him having no CPA is that most CPA's have a tax attorney they deal with on a regular basis they could refer him to. So im not sure why he would be looking for one on here.lilwhitelie wrote:GrizwalD wrote:Tell him to first try and find a good CPA to help him.... will usually get the same results but not always.
