I need some help from the hog hunters on the board. I have a few questions I need help answering for work and since I don't hunt them I figured I would ask those who do.

1. What would be the top 5 guns of choice for hog hunting in MS?
2. What is the centerfire rifle ammo of choice caliber, brands/builds?
3. What is the top shotshell of choice brands/build?
4. When do most of you hunt for hogs? (I know its pretty much all year but is there a certain time of the year you hunt just hogs?)

1. Rock River M16 Lower set to "WFO" with a can, and IR laser and NV goggles.
2. Any of the cheap stuff
3. N/A
4. At night

Just kidding, but that would be fun.

I'm sure it just depends on when you hunt them and how you hunt them. I scouted this past weekend and carried a .22 looking to ear hole one. Although I do carry my normal deer rifle when day hunting and AR in .300blk when hunting at night with goggles and all the goodies.

I like my DPMS 308. A buddy of mine has been new generation 2 version which is significantly lighter weight than mine, both of them shoot lights out But the new one is what I would recommend. Big hogs I would suggest using 165/168 grain Barnes offering if you were trying to recover them. If not I like Hornady SST's in a similar weight for general blasting amongst them.

I hunt them day or night depending on where we are going. Using night vision and thermal equipment makes night time hunting them much easier.

I will travel and shoot them for free if anyone is interested.

We hunt the ridges and thick stuff with buckshot and no plug in the gun. We'll jump a herd and start blasting. This crazy mofo in the picture got me started on this post-duck hunt action. Ducks in the morning, hogs in the afternoon. They will sink like a stone by the way. Anything could have been used, even sumpin' with a foot long 'nanner clip, we just chose the gun based on the expected range, conditions & convenience.
