So the old timers say don't keep hunting dogs inside bc it effects their nose far as abilty to smell things and pick up on them. Any truth to that?

My Great Grandfather when he was living use to always tell me that he would never keep his bird dogs(English Pointers) inside bc of it effecting their nose. Then the other day I was at a store and a old man was talking about bird dogs and deer dogs what not and said the same thing.

I don't think it affects their sense of smell at all. My dog is inside 90% of the time and has one of the best noses I've ever seen on a retriever. It's next to nothing for him to take out on a 100 yard completely blind trail through the woods and come back with the duck.

Of course not, that's one of the craziest things I've heard in a while.

I suppose it would depend on what the inside of your house smells like.
