Small Engine help

I got a snapper Rear engine rider.
I have had some trouble with the valves on it for the last year or so.
I thought some of you fellow rednecks could help me get it fixed.
its a 12.5 HP briggs - vertical shaft.
The engine was hard starting so I adjusted the valve last to .004 and it started right up and ran fine until lately.
the top valve will move like its supposed to
but the bottom valve will not move - the push rod will not move at all and it will not compress the valve spring at all on the stroke.
the push rods are in good shape, and I can compress the valve springs by hand.
any input ???

Sounds like a cam lobe problem. Don't know a lot about the engine, not sure if it has hydraulic lifters or solid. If it's got hydraulic lifters that could be the problem

If it has a divot - I am probably just going to weld it up and sand it back down on my belt sander.
I will probably tear it down tonight.

that sucker is about 12 years old anyway - if I have to spend $25.00 on it I'm just going to go buy an exmark.

Buckshot
Take the gas cap off, run a new engine up under it, and screw gas cap back on

Remember that old yazoo that you a bubba used to cut the grass with ?
I should have robbed the engine off of it - but I gave it to a guy that does some work for me.
it was the lifter - stuck in the block. polished the lip on the block and the top of the lifter and its back smooth as silk.
just gotta get it back together.

JD,
I got a 16" big wheel yazoo that is about 35 years old with a new Honda engine. Self propel with speed control dependent on tire PSI. That dude will roll and you can actually clear brush with it if needed. If you use it you can abandon your daily workout regimen. Can't sell it, but I could loan it for a while:)

My Daddy and I use to go to Rolling Fork every other weekend to cut my memaws grass. I hated it, he got the riding lawn mower and I got the Yazoo. I use to sweat so much Steele Bayou would rise a couple feet in a weekend.

The yazoo I had was a Rear Engine Rider.
it was a heavy duty mower - but took 1 acre to turn it around - plus it had a yellow naked Indian decal on the side of it that was awesome.

As PeeWee and I can attest the 16" big wheel can be considered a zero turn and if you have quick enough feet you won't even have to de-engage the self propel handle, but you gotta be almost ninja swift and I don't recommend trying without several hours behind the sticks.

I had a feeling that would be the problem
