worked a deal with a guy to trade for a handgun. i've never traded hand guns before, with someone not on here (plenty of guys to vouch for each other on here) so naturally i'm a little leary. Any do's and dont's?
Will i be okay getting just a bill of sale, and a copy of his DL? do i need anything else?

Signed bill of sale with the make, model, and serial is really all you need in case the other party comes back and reports it stolen.
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

May not hurt to put some language on the bill of sale saying that both parties agree that they are legally allowed to possess the firearms.

As long as it is in state sale/trade you are ok.. If it is intrastate you should get a FFL dealer involved.

My best advice is to have a buddy go with you, just in case. There is strength in numbers. If it doesn't feel right when you meet or they refuse to provide info walk away, there are plenty more deals out there.

Re: hail call DS braintrust: trading firearms.
Whenever I am buying anything from someone I don't know, I meet them in the parking lot of the local police or sheriff's dept. I always call the police and tell them what I am doing so they are not suspicious. If the person balks at meeting me there, it's a no go for me.
