I am looking at putting a new motor on a skiff I recently purchased and I am between a 25hp Suzuki 4 stroke and a 25hp E-Tec. Do any of yall have first hand experience with these two motors? Essentially the weight, cost and distance to a reputable dealer is the same.

We have 5 boats at work that all have E-Tecs on them. They range from 25-250 H.P. I really like the E-Tecs. They are as quite as a 4 stroke but seem to be much stouter than the 4 strokes i have dealt with. They may not be as heavy as most 4 strokes but they are definitely much heavier than an old school 2 stroke. If my old smoker ever quits on me i will definitely be looking at a E-tec for myself. I have never run a Suzuki outboard of any kind, but the E-tec far out performs any 4-stroke yamaha or honda i have ever dealt with.

Thanks for the info. I'm strongly considering one. I really like the looks of it and like the way all the controls are forward on the tiller handle

Take a look at the new Tohatsu 40/50 four stroke. I hear that it is quite the performer with a nice price tag. The 40 and 50 are the same engine with different ECM programming.
I would say Yamaha but you will pay a premium price. Suzuki seems to be the next best thing, but my experience is in 150 HP and up.
