Pocket Pistol

Ready to retire my LCP. Anyone carrying an LC9, Glock 42, or Glock 43 in your front pocket? What's the skinny on these guns?

I have a 43 and a shield but personally I don't use them as "pocket guns" for that duty I use a SW 642 or an LCP. For me and the type pants/jeans I wear, they are just a little too big. I LOVE my 43 in an IWB holster and a magazine with a +2 base plate though with it being hot outside and wearing shorts. It's unnoticeable compared to my 23 IWB. I know several people who have had some issues with the .380 glock but I think it has more to do with .380 being such a finicky caliber more than the gun itself. My stepmom carries a 42 and likes it. The 43 is a great shooting gun so far. Dad has an LC9 and isn't really a fan of it. I have two spare mags I have to pick up for the 43 and one will stay factory flush and the other will have a "+1" Taran base on it if I ever have to slip it in a pocket or ankle holster.

All those listed are going to be bigger than the LCP.. One word of caution on front pocket carry is that when you sit down at a table or at church your gun will be pointing directly at someone. I used to do a front pocket carry but I won't do it anymore. If that is the only way you will carry then something with a long Double Action Only trigger is best.. Something like the LCP or the LC9 (old version).. If you get int the Glock 42 or 43 or the new LC9s and striker fire guns you have much lighter trigger pulls and also firing pins under pressure where the guns are essentially cocked.. Glocks are under 40% tension, not sure on the LC9s but the trigger pull on the LC9s is much lighter than the Glocks.

The only benefit of the Glock 42 over the LCP is the trigger.. The LCP holds more rounds and is smaller but for front pocket carry I would rather have the long trigger pull on the lcp.

The 43 while only a hair smaller than the LC9 and the 43 holds one less round than the LC9 and has a worse trigger than the new LC9s Pro.

I would suggest trying a strong side back pocket carry in a pocket holster if you can.. This will eliminate the problem of the gun pointing at someone while sitting, and it is easier draw than the front pocket.

In a standard pair of Levi or wrangler jeans the LCP will be completely hidden in the back pocket, the G42 will be barely visible and the the G43 and the LC9 will have the back of the gun visible in a back pocket..

The only true pocket 9mm that is small enough to disappear in a pocket is the Diamond Back DB9..

I have one listed here

Right now I am carrying a Glock 43 in an onyour6designs.com IWB holster for my around the house and town gun.. And a S&W M&P 9c in another onyour6desgins.com holster for my trips outside of Brandon.. :D :D :D

Yeah, I love my CM9. They have night sights for them now btw...

I also carry a Kahr CW380. The CW380 took a bit to break in but after about 200 rounds of slightly hot reloads it's functioning 100% reliably. Kahr's are notorious for stiff recoil springs out of the box...

I have a G42 and a 9 shield. 9 times out of 10 I have the G42 in a remora holster on. I have pocket carried it and it is small enough to pocket carry (even for a short fellow) but for reason like CWink mentioned I just prefer to have it in a holster.

Why are you retiring the lcp?

Wondered that myself. The 380 is not super impressive but holds its own at pocket gun range. I wish mine had sights but I can put a full mag in a coke can at 5 yds, I figure that ain't bad for a mouse gun. I will note that before I added the Hogue grips it was hard to control, and I also have smaller hands.

I've always liked the gun and shoot it fairly well for what it is. When it was new I put about 300 rounds through it with only one, maybe two, malfunctions. I decided to practice with it the other day and it seemed like I was averaging about 2 malfunctions per magazine. Misfeeds, stove pipes, you name it. Pretty frustrating. I've about decided to keep it though and try to get someone to polish the feed ramp to see if that helps.

What kind of ammo were you feeding it?

I've shot a little bit of everything through it with no real problems until the other day with hollow points. Planning to just use ball ammo from here on out.

Could be a bad magazine or maybe a little limpwristing...

Describe "limpwristing". I've got pretty big mitts and have trouble gripping the gun correctly so I guess it's a possibility.

What should I look for to know if it is a magazine issue?

*Never mind on the limpwristing question. I watched a couple videos and it looks like that could be the issue. Not so much because of how I grip the pistol but because of the "room" the small gun has in my hand. I'll look into that and see if I can modify my grip to overcome it. Suggestions?
