Customer Service Rant

Do NOT stay at the La Quinta Inns and Suites in downtown New Orleans if at all possible. Everything except the Gideon Bible in the room was terrible. They advertised breakfast, but they don't have a restaurant. They have continental items brought in. If you want anything hot, you can cook it yourself. But the equipment is broken. They advertised parking to be included in the price. They don't have a garage. They've contracted with a service to valet park your car, then try to charge you again at checkout. They advertised a microwave in the room. But not in my room. They advertised a refrigerator in the room. Again, not in my room. They advertised queen beds. They’ve got double beds. Even so, I think they got them second hand as they were not in good shape. They advertised they were within walking distance from where I needed to go. Only if you’re an Olympic marathoner. Even the concierge told me at arrival I’d have to drive where I needed. She also said there’s no place to park, so I was out of luck anyway. (I should’ve left then.) I don't know why someone would want to bathe a grizzly bear in a hotel but apparently someone did. (That’s probably how part of the shower broke. I understand grizzly bears can be hard on bath fixtures.) There was hair on the shower walls, lots of it. When I let the hotel know, nothing was done. I had to clean my own shower. If you wait for housekeeping to come and clean your room, they may; but more than likely NOT, replace soap and shampoo and used towels. When I called to ask for these items I was assured they would be brought up promptly. However, 'promptly' is a vague term meaning, "go down to the front desk and pick it up yourself." Then there's the rest of the staff. The only person who was semi-professional and customer focused was a young man who worked both the front desk and the valet. He's who actually got me the requested toiletries, by the way. Some employees seemed to try and ignore guests, while one desk associate actually got short with me for asking a question. This 'don't care' attitude is rampant among staff. When a rowdy guest was roaming the halls in the middle of the night, screaming at anyone and everyone, and beating up vending machines, I again called for assistance. They did absolutely nothing. I stayed barricaded in my room on the 11th floor, with a gun to protect my family. In short, you're better off sleeping in a cardboard box under a freeway overpass during a hurricane than by staying at this hotel.
My $0.02, and it is worth a whole lot more.
