Could a 223 barrel that is a "Medium Bull, fluted" be re-chambered to 300 AAC? I would assume there is enough barrel thickness in a bull barrel to safely make the change from 22cal to 30cal. Just curious your thoughts / opinions.

There is not one made for the particular bolt gun in question. Well, there was one maker, they are showing them discontinued, and not seeing them available online. So it seems it would be a complete one off barrel build, or a re-chamber job.

This is a purely hypothetical question as I really don't think I'll be doing it, but....... The Mossberg MVP rifle is a compact bolt gun in 223 (and a few others) that takes standard AR mags, comes threaded from the factory, and just feels good and light. I also like the commonality should I build out my next AR as a 300 AAC.

It could probably be done depending on the thickness of the barrel, but I'm not sure that the original 223 twist rate won't have to be maintained with the new bore size?

If it's a one and 12, I wouldn't do it unless that can be changed to something faster as part of the procedure?

Incidentally, a friend of mine has a 223 encore barrel that was re-chambered to 44 mag if you can believe that? Whoever sold him that particular barrel may have been full of you know what, but he said he chose that caliber because of the twist rate.

I would not know who to suggest. I would start with whoever works on the particular rifle at hand.

the twist rate would not matter. the bore of the rifle would have to be drilled out and new rifling added - you could add what ever twist rate you want.......

Twist rate can be made whatever you want upon boring out. In fact, it HAS to be re-cut.
