Polaris or Yamaha ??

which one should I buy ?
both similar in cost. Polaris engine is a little larger. Also has independent rear suspension. Smoother ride, but more to go wrong. Seems like it has a larger towing capacity, and stronger.
2004 Yamaha has a solid axle, and one shock. Little stiff on the ride, but less to go wrong. Diff lock. both have high and low gears.
there are several Yamaha dealerships in the Memphis area. All but one Polaris dealership has left the city. From what I understand, they are more difficult to get parts for. And the independent repair guys can't get parts for it.
Have heard that the Polaris has more maintenance, expecially after 3 or 4 years. true?
It will be used for the rice fields, going to the deer stand, and work around the house...
no Honda comments... just dont like their 4-wheelers.
which of these would you buy ?

Get the Kodiak........Polaris are known for their heavier weight and will get stuck in more places than others. I seen them bottom out in holes time and time again that I go straight through in a 250 4x4 timberwolf....

No problems with my 2000 Sportsman 500. Had to unbolt the belt housing and realign the rubber o-ring so it would keep water out. Other than that, been guiding on it carrying 3, 200+ pound men at a time thru rice and beans and have been toting a 30 gallon spray rig with 20 foot boom..with no problems.
Keep it greased. Lots of alamites on that rear suspension. If you neglect them, they will neglect you. Grease gun is the easiest form of preventive maintenance there is...but nobody takes the time to use it. 2 minutes with a grease gun will save 2 days of trouble in the long run.
I have a 350 Big Bear as my work fourwheeler, with Mud Walker tires and rims that I will put up against anything you got. It'll out do my personal Polaris with those Mudwalkers.

Polaris. I have one I've been riding since 1995 and NO problems with it to date and no plans for a new one.

HONDA! go ahead and get a 450S, a Rubicon, or if you wanna go all out, get a Rincon.
BUT, if you're determined to go with a Yamaha or Polarass, go with the Yamaha. You'll have less headaches down the road.

I personally would go with the Honda 450S. You can't tear them up! I hunt in the swamps on the Ms River and I have put it thru heck. It has never torn up. But if I had to choose between the Polaris or Yamaha, I would definately go with the Polaris. Those jokers are AWSOME, but they just do not have the durability.

Go to an cycle shop and ask him the same question...I did and he told me to say away from Polaris either go Honda or Yam.
If your doing some serious hunting in a lot of mud and water Polaris is a "piece of junk".

Hey MSB,
If you decide to go with the Sp500, I know where you might get a good deal on one, 2004 with 32 miles on it, has camo package and 27" Mudlites from what I understand. Let me know.
