i know it pays to an optimist and usually i am, but i was thinking the other day while i was in the blind, sweating, not seeing any ducks..."what if it is an extremely mild winter and the hunters' up north have seasons which are fixing to close....does that mean w/ no pressure and milder weather, the ducks will stall out up there and never make it down?" just a thought...anyone got any ideas?

I went to Duckcentral.com last night and looked at the Wisconsin board. Their season closed on 11/27! They are reporting seeing large concentrations of birds in the south part of the state while fishing. They are also reporting theat the birds are flying south. Their weather is low's 20's and highs 40's. They told me that the birs will not really migrate until the low's get around the 10's. But some of the birds are moving south! I slo went to the other board just south of them and they are still trying to find birds as of last weekend! So, I would say that it will probrably be at least a week to a week and a half of good cold weather before we see any reall migratory action in Mississippi. If they are reporting any thin up in the northern part of the state it is probrably just a few birds that left early. They guy did state that he knows a good cold front is coming because the larger flocks are starting to leave. Don't worry about the preasure becase all the states south of them are still open and very eager to see some birds!

Cold weather and a freezeout will start things to he north of us, but it will take a good snowfall to cover all the food that is planted for the ducks in MO and IL. A freeze will ove some ducks, but the big push takes more. So many states to the north have started planting refuge areas with food that the ducks will stay there as long as there is food to eat, even in below-freezing weather. Only a signigficant snow fall will get them out of there. So far, no snow to the north of us and none in the immediate future.
