How to Rig a Jerk Cord

Anybody got any instructions or web links for riggin a good jerk cord set up. I have seen several good one for sale, but figured it could be made cheaper. Instead of trial and thought you guys could help me out. Thanks.

cheapest way i know of is to get a long stick and jam it in the mud at the far end of your spread, tie some string to that, tie the string to some decoys, and run it back to the blind... ain't fancy and there's probably better ways, but works for me

Tie a bungee cord to your stick or anchor at the end of the jerk string away from the blind, and tie off the jerk string to that. That way it will "snap back" after you jerk it.

GH22 knows a lot about jerking, so I am sure he will chip in soon. :twisted:

Don't forget the bungee cord or rubber or elastic to make the decoys move back toward the stick once you pull them toward the blind. They must move both ways to be effective.

I have seen them made with those really flexible peep site aligners. It made those decoys swim real pretty.

Have any of you ever seen the jerk machine?

go to a mechanic shop and buy you a big spring. the kind that holds the hydraulic cords on the back of a big rig...... bungee cords tend to lose there spring after a while in the ice water but they work well.... just my 2c.

I use surgical tubing. My bro is a med rep, and gets a ton of it for me.

I have heard of the surgical tubing before. Someone else on the site mentioned the $.97 elastic that can be purchased at Wal-Mart in the sewing/crafts dept. I have tried it and it works great. Should be able to find some old posts by doing a search. Good luck.

I picked up one of these at Mack's went I was up that way in Oct. Works good.

Thanks for the input. Do you guys recommend some type of swivel to attach the dekes to the cord? I rigged up a single and hooked the bungee to the but of the deke, so when I pulled the cord the deke came forward and returned backward. Would a swivel make the deke turn as it returns? Thanks again.

I bought one of these the other day and I have yet to use it. All the places I have hunted have been to deep. But I have modified mine to I can un hook it from the poll and use a weight. I'll let you know tuesday (I am off Monday) how it works.

mick, this is something i posted on another forum....hope this helps, cost bout 5-10 bux to do...

5 bux and a trip to walmart is all ya need...

go to the hardware section and get you an extention cord "holder"...you know the things that you wrap the extention cords up on....not the circular deals, these look more like an "H" w/ a handle...then, crafts for some elastic - not the ribbon, but the string looking elastic....lil package it comes in looks like a "shoe-string" box...comes in 5 ft, but you get about 10 ft of "stretch" outta it, so i double it and make a loop in the end for a slip-knot if needed...

attach the elastic to some trot-line bought over in the sporting goods section. not the white kind, but you can generally find some black trot line if you look - hides easier....also buy some "swivel hooks"...take about 2-3 inches of string that comes w/ trot line and tie to keel of deke, attach swivel hook, and there ya have it....you can attach the dekes to the line, i generally use about 3, but you can get movement outta just about as many as ya want too...afterwards, just detach the dekes and rollup the line onto the "H" wrap, and place all in your sack....

beauty is the way you can use it, when the sun gets up a little on the brake, i stretch the line tight as i can, and wrap it around a limb...when ducks circle, i release and b/c of the elastic on the end that's attached to a tree/limb/stump, the ducks sorta "swim" back - pretty kewl.......attach 2, w/ the hen further away, and it looks like a drake chasin a hen when you release...

no real secret here, but thought i'd at least contribute....the idea as a whole i dreamnt up, but someone (think it was wildfowler) posted this almost identical idea a few years ago....he posted the 'swim' idea as well, which is awesome!!! you put a feeder on there and you really got some "realism"...

i've also used the "yo-yo" deals that folks fish w/ from time to time...but, i've found that if they decide to break while hunting, your movement goes way down...gator
