Is DU really feeding the birds up north?

I have been hearing more complaining lately from fellow hunters about some rumor that DU is keeping all the birds up north by feeding them.

Is there any truth to this? I'm talking facts?

Some of my freinds even single me out, saying, "Yeah, you're helping DU feed those birds with that money you give'em."

All the old timers at my camp talk about the 'good ole days' of duck hunting, and I ponder if this is going to continue to progressively get worse over time.

Thanks for your time and info,
Jason

Yes they are as a matter of fact. That's where your DU dollars are going. (assuming you are a contributing DU member) DU is paying PETA to feed the wild ducks in all the Fed refuges throughout the Mid-West and the plains states. You ought to just plan a trip up North to hunt before the season ends because there darned sure won't be any ducks showing up here in MS anytime soon.

Duck hunting is only going to get worse and worse here in MS, to the point where we have another mass exodus of duck hunters like we did in the 80's. And the best part is that it won't even take a decade of restrictive seasons to do it this time. There's so many guys out there who can't kill any ducks that they are going to voluntarily throw in the towel.

Yes my friend, the good ole days are definitely a thing of the past. On the bright side, the deer huntin' is REAL good here in MS.

The only thing short stopping the ducks is the weather and no huntuing pressure north of us. All northern states seasons are over and the only thing that will move those ducks is a severe freeze with major snow cover.

Ok, so if they are feeding the ducks up north, can some one explain why?

First it does not make sense that DU would form an alliance with PETA of all organizations.

Second, what is the bennefit of keeping the ducks up North?

I am not saying that organizations have not done stupid things in the past, but if they are doing this I would like to know the reasoning behind it and how does it help the Duck Population. If there is a logical explanation then I am fine with it. After all if the Duck Population increases enough then the argument becomes null and void.

Who ever said it was supposed to make any sense? Obviously, PETA has convinced DU that the ducks well-being would be increased exponentially if they didn't have to migrate so far each year. Thus the feeding of the ducks in the Northern states to try to keep them from having to fly.

It's sad isn't it?

I think it is the black panthers! The ducks are just plain scared to come down due to the large numbers of black panthers that are reported in the delta every year. Yep, it's the panthers...the panthers...and the clowns!

Jason,

DU is not feeding ducks up north. There is absolutely no truth to those statements. Your friends are misinformed. We do not feed ducks. There has never been a DU program that fed ducks...period.
