Hey Guys,
I am new to this site and I was just trying to get over my post season duck hunting blues. Heck, I have had them during the season too. Anyway, does anyone do any Snipe hunting? I mean for real Snipe, not the paper bag and flashlight game. I would love a chance to shoot at some of those little rockets. Please give me an e-mail if you would like a Snipe partner. Heck, you could even blindfold me on the way. I live down on the coast, but driving to them is no problem.

Does anybody out there really hunt snipe, woodcock and rails? If they do, how do you hunt them? Like dove? Can you eat those things?

i killed two while dove hunting the other day. Them thangs don't taste too bad with a piece of bacon wrapped around em.

Saw first flocks I've seen all season just last weekend. They're fun to shoot and taste great.

ole doubleR2 told me he had decoys for em them little fookers fly fast gonna try to eat one this year....i think....if i get lost in the woods....or the "super wal-mart" closes down and dont hold up to that open 24 hours thing

i went snipe hunting when i was about 11 but i think it was a joke they left me in some woods at midnight that i never been before with a brown sack making some ungodly noise and left my dumb booty there scared shetless

Here's a pic from a few years ago at Merineso's lease, probably one of the best field I've ever hunted when the birds are down. Note the snipe profiles - snipe will readily decoy and are alot of fun to shoot. Still have the decoys but have not been in a couple of years. The season runs into February and you boys that pull off field water right after season may get into some good shooting.

Snipe shooting is fun......and very challenging. I finally figured-out the right gun to use.....my trap gun. I't bored IM/XF 32"O/U that patterns 75%/25% at 40 yds and gets 296 pellets of hard 8's in a 27"circle @ 40.
I use a 3dram 1-1/8oz of shot with a velocity of 1200fps. Got plenty o' gun and plenty of pattern, but those things STILL manage to dodge everything you throw at'em. The trick is to start behind them and pull through them and hit the trigger when you're out about 4' ahead of'em. The straight-away shot is the hardest, cuase you never pull above them high enough to intercept their flight path.....you always shoot behind them. That's where the 15" high pattern and a high comb comes-in. They are still tough little targets.......and my second favorite game behind woodcock.

Snipe hunting.....lol..... I can't believe WGF got in on the joke by putting it on the hunting schedule..........oh my.......let's go get a snipe......

I usually get some shots in at some while rabbit hunting on a lease we have here at hope. They do eat good.

Snipe hunting is the most underrated wing shooting there is in the Delta.

Snipe! Now there's a migratory bird we still get in coastal Alabama. February is snipe/Mardi Gras month in southwest Alabama. We pull on the hip boots and walk 'em up on the marsh and mudflats and then go home shower up and hit the parades!
These birds are tasty, fairly plentiful, hard to hit and can shot legally with lead shot in the same areas we have to use steel for ducks. Down here though we don't go when it's warm b/c the gators are a little pissy this time of year.
