SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -- Notre Dame assistant football coach David Cutcliffe was listed in good condition Thursday at a hospital in Mississippi where he was recovering from triple-bypass heart surgery.
Cutcliffe, 50, underwent surgery early Wednesday at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was the head coach at Mississippi for six years before joining the staff of new Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis in December. He also will coach quarterbacks for the Irish.
"He's doing great," his sister, Buff Easterly, told the South Bend Tribune from the hospital. "There were no surprises during the surgery so we are very happy about that." There was no indication when Cutcliffe would be back at work. Notre Dame is set to begin its first spring practice under Weis later this month.
