Was discovered by Northeast CC where he averaged 29 points. Describes the fiasco of him passing 36 hrs to meet eligibility requirements and a State academic coordinator having to just about lead him to classes.

The season starts with 8500 fans attending a midnight practice televised on ESPN at the Hump. State won 10 of its first 11 and was ranked 9th before losing 3 of 4, falling from the rankings. Won the Western Division and faced number 1 Ky in the SEC tournament finals. Dontae went off for 28 and beat Ky 84-73. Seeded 5th in the NCAA, State beat Virginia Comm., Princeton, and Cinn.
