NCAA could allow 12th games in '06
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The NCAA Division I Management Council has backed legislation that would allow Division I-A and I-AA schools to add a 12th football game starting with the 2006 season.
The plan was given tentative approval by the council during its meeting Monday, but still must be approved by the NCAA Board of Directors when it meets April 28.
Division I vice president David Berst said Tuesday he didn't know whether the NCAA board would give final approval for a 12th football game. Only the Atlantic Coast Conference was opposed to the proposal.
"I would expect there will be more discussion," he said. "The board should have the freedom to make its own decision."
There was no discussion of the issue at the council's meeting.
"The various conferences came to the meeting prepared to vote, and we just tallied the votes," Berst said.
Ron Wellman, the athletic director at Wake Forest and chairman of the ACC athletic directors, said many of the conference's concerns dealt with academics.
"We believe the season is long enough at 11 games, and we actually enjoy the bye week," he said.
The council also approved legislation for more flexible recruiting calendars in men's basketball and increased the number of scholarships for women in gymnastics, soccer, volleyball and track and field. It also voted to grant another year of eligibility to players who were academically ineligible as freshmen but have completed 80 percent of their degree requirements after four years.
No action was taken on the length of the season in basketball because of a pending court case, Berst said.

translation: in the last 3 years, Alabama has been 20-20 in football, for a winning percentage of .500; Ole Miss has been 21-16, for a winning percentage of .567 Mississippi state has been 11-24 (guessing, too tired to look it up), for a percentage of .314:
Ole Miss has been to 2 bowl games in 3 years, the Cotton and Independence, and is 2-0 in bowl games in 3 years.
Alabama has been to 1 bowl game, Motor City, in 3 years, and is 0-1.
Mississippi State has not been to a bowl game in 3 years.

Nice selective statistics.....congratulations on having a "slight" edge on Bama during its worst 3 year span in history. Need I remind you that we actually won the west during that span. (not a "tie" like some schools...cough...like to claim) But, of course, probation....if "if's" and "buts" were hands and butts we'd all be grabbing our arses.
Or something to that effect....
Bottom line: your still Ole Sis...talk to me when you actually do something......we still own you in the grand scheme of things.
Now shouldnt you two MS schools be arguing over who will be crappier this year? Your time would be better spent.

In the grand scheme of things..........you lost to Maine.
And you are obsessed with me. I get under your skin. All it takes is one sentence. Next thing you know, this thread will be 3 pages long...mostly filed with dribble from your keypad that makes absolutely no sense and leaves no doubt what a Mississippi education can do for you.
When your team is not on probabtion, you can talk about Alabama cheating. Until then, you are just pi$$ing in the wind. Standard operating procedure for M$U fans.

yea we did lose to maine, i actually predicted that one last summer as a matter of fact, BUT WE STILL BEAT FLORIDA!!! Only a state fan can live off a win like that for an entire year. To tell you the truth we may not be a whole lot better this year, but atleast we're disciplined. I'd rather cheer for a classy bunch of guys losing, than cheer for a bunch of thugs losing. Did it ever occur to yall that the reason state fans are so obnoxious is because after years of below to mid mediocrity we had a few years of success and we just didn't know how to handle it. Bammer on the other hand has been winning for decades and still doesn't know how to handle it.

Now, the proper word usage for this slam against Bigwater would be the word "drivel" (which means to flow from the mouth like spittle; to be silly in manner of speaking), as opposed to "dribble" , which is what you do with a basketball. Of couse, if you had a quality Mississippi education, you would know better. But, since you are from Alabama, I guess we will have to cut you a little slack to make it fair.
UM has often been accused of living in the past or resting off the laurels of past football glory in the 50s and 60s. It has now been so long since UM has experienced much "glory" that most UM fans have no memory of such days, either because they weren't born yet or such has faded from their memory banks. MSU can't be accused of this because they have never experienced any real "glory" in football, except perhaps in the deranged mind of Gene Swindoll and his flock. That being said, I no longer think UM fans can hold a candle to Alabama fans in this regard. The "glory days" trophy and new title goes to the delusional Crimson Tide fans. Long live the Bear (in spirit).

Dribble, drivel, who the hell cares? The point was made, and if you are in the business of pulling the dictionary out everytime someone makes a statement around this site, you are in the wrong place. Good god, you could make a case study of bad english, spelling, and no logical point made on bigwaters posts alone.
Glory in the 50's and 60's? Maybe you had some. Maybe you were there to enjoy it. I really could care less.
When exactly is the "accepted" cut off date for enjoying past success?
Let me set the bar: how many SEC Championships has Ole Miss won since Bear quit coaching?
By the way, are any of you capable of replying to the actual topic of this thread?

Weedmaster, ya ain't got to go get all mad about it.
YOU were the one questioning the education of folks on this board ---education obtained from those "Mississippi " schools ---folks who know the difference between dribble and drivel without having to look it up in a dictionary.
Keep your arrogant educational criticism of others to yourself, and I'll put up my red editing pen and dictionary.
As to Bigwater and his drunken, broken english prose, it makes perfect sense to me. As a matter of fact, I've noticed that the drunker I get, the more and more sense Bigwater makes.
