TN and M$U not getting it done in the classroom.

It's about time something happened to TN. As for M$U, its just more of the same.
NCAA Adjustments Improve Academic Scores

INDIANAPOLIS -- Revisions to the NCAA's new report card on academic standards moved dozens of teams off the failing list, but dropped others into danger of punishment.
The adjustments released Monday by the NCAA resulted in nine football programs and six men's basketball teams moving above the cutoff line for possible penalties, which could include the loss of scholarships.
The most prominent programs revised to now have passing scores are the men's basketball teams at Connecticut, Temple and Houston, along with the football teams at Oklahoma State and Wyoming.
The revisions also moved 20 teams that initially had passing scores to the failing list, including the football teams at Tennessee and Mississippi State, the men's basketball teams at Iowa, Utah and Washington, and UCLA women's basketball.
The NCAA said the revisions to the preliminary report released in February leave 61 football teams, or 26 percent, below the cutoff score, the worst of any sport. The next worst sports were baseball, with a 21.5 percent failure rate, and men's basketball at 18.4 percent.
Overall, 10 percent of men's teams did not meet the academic standards; 2.6 percent of women's teams were subpar.
The schools had through March to correct any reporting errors. Some schools criticized the initial results, pointing out errors and saying low scores could hurt recruiting.
Teams that consistently fall below the cutoff could face sanctions including scholarship losses.
No penalties will be enforced until data from the 2004-05 school year are included. Stronger penalties, such as bans on postseason play, are expected to be enforced by the fall of 2008.

The NCAA once again changed their way of grading the athletic programs. The original changes to the grading took place back in February. MSU was passing the grade, whereas Ole Miss was failing. Then in May the NCAA decides to change it some more, which put MSU under the min grade. Plus for every player that leaves the program, your grade decreases, main reason MSU is now under the passing grade.

it doesn't change the fact that MSU is still failing....
by the way... if Ole Miss was failing before, and the rules were made even more strict now, to include MSU, then why is Ole Miss not on the fail list anymore ?????

Who's to say that they still aren't?
Just because their name wasn't listed in the article doesn't mean that they are passing now. All they listed were the one's that were passing before that are now failing.

That "physical education for idiots" major that 80% or more of the athletes major in at MSU is tuuuufffffffffff. No wonder they are failing. They should switch to poultry science or animal husbandry majors.

Webb....you know that's not the whole story. Tn did make corrections and fell further. If you have student/athletes leave early you are penalized also.
If you have student/athletes kicked off the team you are penalized.
And anyway, these numbers are based on season before last only. Last season's numbers won't come out until September and those are the one's that count the most...or will count the most eventually...if penalties start in in 2008 I guess it will be the 2006-2007 school year that we'll have to wait and see before knowing how we fare?

How do student athletes who get arrested fall into this picture?

If it's 11 months 29 days.....and they're on work release
I think Tn players are on work release from Sept thru Jan.......So they are ok.
How about Bama? Any problems at that school??

I am not sure if I can even spell it. But everyone tells me that kinesiology is pretty easy.
