If they make it to the CWS, LSU won't be able to touch the contract Bianco is about to get. Smoke isn't going anywhere.

He's already got it........ contract was signed before SEC tourney, not sure of exact #'s, but it was huge, along with fairly massive stadium expansions.... I suppose if we win tomorrow and go to Omaha, the contract might get bigger, but from what i was told, there's not much more room to go up from the new contract.....

i was referring to the $$ involved, not the years, again, i haven't seen any details of the contract, was just told by people who are usually "in the know"

i do know that there were what these people said "EXTREMELY" nice pay raises for him and his assistants, plus plans for stadium expansion involved....

I believe that Bianco still had 3 years left on his contract. He was given a 1 year extension to make it a 4 year deal, the longest length allowed by MS state law. He will probably continue to get 1 year extensions every year in the event the Rebs continue to improve and eventually make it to the CWS.

From UM athletics media relations:

Ole Miss Athletics Director Pete Boone announced here Thursday that he has recommended to Chancellor Robert Khayat a one-year extension to the contract of head baseball coach Mike Bianco, which would carry through the 2009 season.

Since taking over the helm of the Ole Miss baseball program in 2001, Bianco has led the Rebels to a five-year record of 198-110-1. Ole Miss won a share of its first Southeastern Conference Western Division title since 1982 this season, going 18-12 in league play and 48-20 overall.

"Mike has done an incredible job in bringing the Ole Miss baseball program to the level of not only being one of the best in the Southeastern Conference, but one of the top programs in the nation," Boone said. "The excitement that Mike has brought to the program is evident by season ticket sales, individual game attendance, and attendance in post-season play which ranked among the national elite."

Ole Miss was a No. 5 national seed heading into this year's NCAA Championships, and played host to an NCAA Regional for the second straight year and made their first-ever appearance in an NCAA Super Regional, losing 6-4 to perennial power Texas in the Super Regional championship game.

"I'm very appreciative of the confidence Chancellor Khayat and Pete Boone continue to express for our baseball program and the vision we share," Bianco said. "I'm excited about the opportunities that are in front of us. My entire family really enjoys living in Oxford and we plan to be here for a long time as we continue to reach for our goal of making it to the College World Series and winning the national championship."

Bianco, who has an eight-year career coaching record of 298-181-1, has continued to lead the Rebels to record-breaking performances both on and off the field during his short time at Ole Miss. The 48 wins this season marked the program's second-ever 40-win season and set a school record for most wins in a single season.

Ole Miss has also set school records for home attendance during his tenure with the Rebels, drawing 121,457 to Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field in 2004 and 170,152 in 2005.
