Wireless fences

My mother moved into a new subdivision and is having problems with her golden chasing the neighbors cats. My question is have any of you ever used a wireless fence unit? If so how good does it work? Found one on gundog supply that uses a radio signal. It will reach out to 90 feet and when the collar loses the signal it starts shocking. Just wonder if it could lose its signal without getting out of range, or if the batteries get low.

Most dogs at some point get immune to the underground fence. It just does not work. If this dog is chasing the neighbors cats. More than likely, the dog will run thur the shock of the underground fence.

That's kinda what i figured about the ones with wires ,but the wireless unit keeps shocking until they come back into range of the radio signal.

I think most dogs would probably not come back to stop the shock. They just would not understand what is going on. They would just keep going. I am sure the unit has some sort of warning before the actual shock of going to far. How much for the unit?

Had one installed about two months. Best investment i've made for my dogs. Go ahead and get a undeground system-it's well worth the $$$$

I got one professionally installment few months ago. I came with a one year money back guarantee, and it has been awesome....one the other hand my sister and bro in law went out and bought one and installed themselves, don't work. If your willing to fork up some dollars for the right system, they're a lifesaver! Yours and your dogs...

Glen, the unit was about 250. I was thinking it that you could train them as to why were getting shocked just like using a collar in training, and also how to turn the pressure off.
camlock and opie joe, what kind of unit did you have installed?

Dogwatch-has a awesome warranty. Also, check into the replacement batteries. Make sure you do your homework if you go pro-installed. Dogwatch is the best in the long run.

I have had an underground fence for about four years now. IT is the petsafe model and Ihave it around about one acre. I installed it myself. It was alot of work to get down and it has been hit by lightning twice and I had to redo it each time. I know unplug it during bad storms.
It has worked really great for me. I have two springer spaniels and they do not leave out of our yard at all. The batteries have gone dead in there collars and it took almost a month befor they realized they could get out. YOu do have to spend some time with the dogs at first when you put it down. You can not just install it and turn the dogs loose. THey must be trained to get use to it and to know what it is about. IF you just put it down and do not follow the proper training steps it is useless, if you train the dogs it can't be beat and it is a heck of alot cheaper than a regular fence plus you can not see it. I am very satisfied with mine.
