need a little pond help.

Postby woundedduck » Tue Jul 05, 2005 9:55 am

Need to get rid of water weeds. Have a small pond in durant that used to have crappie in it, don't see why it still wouldn't. The pond has been neglected for about 8 years and is covered in weeds. What do I need to put on them. I know once they are gone I can put some carp in there, but it is too bad right now for that. Oh yeah, the weeds look like this: they are about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. they have small leaves that are maroon and green in color i will look for them and try to post so you guys can get a better idea of what the hell they are. Someone probably knows anyway. Thanks for your help guys.

Build a boom for your boat like a four wheeler and spray 24D. Boat slow with no wake. May take 2 applications. Don't eat fish for 5 years.

Put about 20 of those sterile carp in there.

The plant could be Water Primrose, we have a couple of good experts on this site on pond managment.

Also check out this from MSU:

If you can't find an answer checking out the previous suggestions, try calling the Wildlife and Fisheries Department at MSU (662-325-3174) and ask for help with pond weed management. Dr. Marty Brunson used to handle these duties, but he has since switched assignments. Thus, I don't know who is working that area now.

If they can't help you, call Dr. John Byrd - MSU Extension Service Weed Specialist, at 662-325-2311.
