gotta talk to somebody at the corps, barnett field office
they do what the folks at vicksburg tell them, and that info isn't published till it happens.
I could be completely wrong, but that has been my experience at Arkabutla.

Thanks Mudsucker, like me you have the amazing grasp of the obvious. What I was trying to say is somebody with some past knowledge of how this flow works might chime in on how many gates are open, the level of the river below the spillway, etc with respect to what is reported on that site. I'd bet it ain't written in black and white anywhere; so joe blows like us couldn't know. Gonna be a combination of the Rez level, river flow, and whatever else they use to determine the gate settings....Gotta find somebody that knows some history about it....Sounds like the only way to be sure at any given time is a drive by....

Well, The thing is, it is all dependent on the amt. of rain upriver as all they are doing is trying to maintain a certian pool level. I have been down here 3 weeks now so do not know much about the amount of rain other than my wife saying they are getting some rain almost everyday. I do not think they schedual releases other than the winter drawdown when they go to winter pool. More rain=more gates!

not always, if the delta is flooding then they will hold there water even after it flows over the emergency spillway. That is the soul purpose of the reservoir. not recreation or habitat management, they will tell you this everytime you ask why they drop all the water out of it when the ducks just start to get here, and also when the spring rains bring enough water for the crappie to spawn, then POOF dropped again, It is to control flooding downstream. If quitman county is under water, then arkabutla will hold water until it is in my folks front door.
SBE - gotta chime in when I feel like I know a little

Was speaking of Ross Barnett!

Ross Barnett is a USCOE Rez also, It operates under the same principles.

Ross Barnett was built and designed by the Corps, but it is not operated by the Corps. A private entity is responsible for the operational aspect of the rez.
Barnett was also built strictly for water supply, not flood control.
