Fellow Duck Hunters:

I am in Miss and wanting any tips on where a duck hunter and his son might see a few working mallards. I have a good boat, decoys, and good call. I'm starting on Lake Enid and possibly going to Furgeson/Wittington on Tues or Wed. Could you give me any good advice on decent hunting? Thanks in advance.

Come up to arkabutla lake outside Hernando.
We were there Saturday moring and did so/so.

We did see quite few ducks, go down to hwy 51 landing (off old 51, south of Hernando).

with all the recent rains is arkabutla on the rise again? I have been working diligently for the past couple of days to get a blind built for my boat and haven't been out. I am building this blind to painstaking measures and beefing everything up so it will last for years to come.

Hey huntducker, I hear that there is a gad-wall in Bolivar county somewhere. Not sure exactly where, but Torch and No Angel might be able to help you find him.

I have a good boat, decoys, a good call, too.......and a whole garage fulla stuff I've accumulated in 34 years of duck hunting and none of it works!

Buddy, you came to the wrong place......there isn't sucha thang as 'working mallards' in Mississippi, this year.......or Louisiana, for that matter.......justa whole heap o' duck hunters in the same boat you are. But as a fellow waterfowler, I WILL wish you and your boy, GOOD LUCK!

.....And if you DO find ducks......I want your latest video.

NO HERE,

Thats prob you I see loading and unloading your boat all the time. Arkabutla has held a lot of water and a fair amount of birds this year. Next year will prob be like usual though. Lots of boats and no birds on the lake. Good luck these last days.

Lake Matamuskeet in Hyde Co. NC.. or Catfish Lake in Beaufort Co. NC.. or Pamlico Sound. Man why did you come way down here to not shoot ducks when you could of not shot any closer to home. Makes for a long car ride. Kidding, try Hillside, Mahanna, or Twin Oaks.Good luck

You drove a long way not to shoot a mallard. You probably should have stayed in SC and hunted Santee. Your chances would have been as good and you would not have had to drive so far. Good luck, if you see a mallard please let us know about it.

Hey! I'm getting beat up a little bit, but I guess I asked for it to some degree with that request. I just think that you Miss hunters really don't get it though. We have ZERO ducks in SC. You have thousands and complain about it. We(5 of us) came to Miss last year and killed 100 mallards and 50 little ducks in 5 days. Went to Ark this year and killed 97 mallards in 5 days. I promise you that you do have the ducks, just have to look for them and hunt very hard, maybe all day where legal. Thanks any way guys. Here's to a better year '02 -'03.

Hey BIG GUN

your right, next year we'll be able to walk across Arkabutla, which we can most years anyway, but you can still kill'em in open water out there.Saturday was the last day for us, saw quite a few birds and noticed a lot of high -high - flying birds, north bound. You'l still see me on the lake, the crappie will crank up here in about 3 weeks, pending on the temps.

You are mostly getting a hard time rather than info on where to take a son hunting. You nhave one more day only and you need a $12 permit from the Yazoo National Wildlife Refuge in Hollandale. (call information for #). The refuge manager Billy Frye at Morgan Brake near Tchula said Sat that Morgan Brake was holding 50,000 mallards. Call infomation for him or Morgan Brake Refuge and take your son there. Good Luck and I hope he kills a fat banded greenhead.
