would you be wary of a breeding w/ a dog that's "known" (term used loosely) to be a carrier of CNM to a female which is "unknown".
as far as health goes, this doesn't matter, but the male has been breed numerous times and produced several FC/AFC'S and upper level HT title. female in her first breeding produced the #2 derby dog whose QAA at 19 months...

yup....centronuclear myopathy = labrador muscular myopathy....
degenerative disease affecting muscles, tendons, ligaments in which is painful, lab never fully develops or live a normal life.....i'm gonna go ahead an guess that since the muscles are being broken down thus increasing the serum creatinine levels that overt kidney failure would be a definite possibility similar to myopathy/rhabdomyolysis seen in humans...
but, those are just educated guesses......gator

Is the bitch from known lines that produced M? Or from suspect lines? I think the M scare is over rated... it aint as common as a lot would lead you to belive. Sure if I had a dog from suspect lines Id be concearned, and with a test now advaible, why would you breed to an unknown with a known carrier. travis
yeah man, that's my point....why breed a known to an unknown
it's the sire that the "known" carrier, but as far as i can tell, that "known" deal is heresay at best....the female is unknown.
sire has been bred ALOT and is constantly in RFTN as up for stud, sired 3 FC/AFC's but all i can find is "known" carrier...
i guess i just wish they'd both use the test and knock out all this heresay stuff.....
and, i agree, i think it's way more just plain ole scared than an actual problem......but, once you see it, i don't imagine you'd ever want to again....gator

Test.....
I have three dogs off known carriers( Rascal,Tanker) and got my Gig Em By Surprise pup's results negative....and am waiting for the other two.We will not be breeding to any unknowns, now that there is a test for carriers. Its not really expensive, but I do wish they would post the dogs that come out positive as a carrier so one can decide for themselves weather they want to take a risk. Some are doing puppies after breeding to known carriers to deem them negative as carriers.Depends on how ethical you want to be as a breeder.
jay, how quick was it from performing the actual test to getting results?
and i'm in the boat of not breeding to an unknown as well.....but, i'm not gonna be worried about breeding for a while anyways, so we're cool...
i guess the other thing is, this dog is one of the dogs that i've always looked at as a potential sire for my next pup.....got close to 200 AA points, finalist in numerous nationals, has sired several FC/AFC dogs and upper level HT dogs, and is a damn fine looking dawg....his brother has damn near the same stats and qualities. i've just always heard "known" carrier which worries me...
