I am going to make the switch to an O/U this year, What configuration of chokes do you use, and which barrel do you use as the first shot??

Is it worth buying two aftermarket chokes??? Five came with the gun

I use improved modified on bottom and mod on top. I always shoot top barrel first. You probably need to pattern it with different chokes to see which is best for your gun. Most of the time every gun is different even if it is the same model.

pattern your gun and see.... most likely choices would be Imp. Cyl. and Mod. but it may work out differently in your gun....

I only shoot clays with my O/U, but if were shooting ducks with it, I'd but improved in the bottom and either a light mod or mod in the top. All things being equal, I usually shoot the bottom barrel first. But that's the advantage of a stack barrel, you can select what barrel and choke you think gives you the best opportunity for making that particular shot.

Most generally shoot the bottom barrel first.

The bottom barrel is more in line with the shooters hands, face and shoulder. Thus, the theory is that the bottom barrel produces less muzzle flip, so you can get on the second shot quicker.

Bottom barrel first. I would put a SK in the bottom, and a LM in the top.

oops sorry, bottom barrel first, the recoil is more in line with the center of the stock, reducing muzzle rise a bit...allowing for a quicker recovery for a second shot, than if you fired the top barrel first...that's the theory anyway...

but, if you have an incoming target, bird etc. you may want to switch up to shoot tighter choke first....

I am shooting a ruger red lable with factory chokes. Imp on top and mod on the bottom. Works for me.

I shoot a Beretta 686 and a ruger gold Label. Theory says to shoot the bottom first. But for some reason I am more consistent with the top barrel first. No need to get on him again if the first shot dumps him. I shoot skeet chokes in both barrels on both guns. I think it is a farse that tighter chokes lead to better patterning with steel. It is the wad that "patterns" steel, and it is more of a shot string than a pattern. Open her up and let the load do its worst.

Who told you tighter chokes were better? Always loosen it up with steel!!

i shoot a Citori. Stock chokes. Full on top. Mod on bottom. Patterns are nearly identical with steel 3's and 4's @ 35 yards. I try to shoot bottom first, but I also seem to be more consistent firing top first.

One thing I do know, switching to O/U improved my overall consistency drastically. Used to be a hot/cold shooter, now I'm hot/warm shooter. Haven't shot the ole B2000 since I got the Citori.

But, pattern you shotgun to decide. My 686 shoots great patterns with these chokes at the ranges I need. But I have to go with a little tighter choke with my 390 to get the same results with 3's in the woods and 2's in the fields.
