Let me see if I can do this pretty short. Two years ago I killed a woodie with a band. I sent the band in and got the name and location of the person who banded the bird.
Years before (10-12) my brothaer -in-law and his wife came to visit us.
They brought a friend with them from USM. She was a big bird person and made beautiful pictures with duck feathers. She made my wife and me one. After graduate school she moved back up north to Ohio. Several years went by and we kept in touch. She wrote us and said that she had gotten married. She gave us her husband's name.
The person that banded the duck was this woman's husband. We had never met, but we knew his wife. :D :D :D

Hap & Echo1,
I'lll tell them for you.

Echo1's second or third duck hunt (first ones were with me also), it is about 9ish and I have my limit in the boat. Dad and Echo1 are finishing theirs off while I drink a coke and eat some viniees. 3 mallards come in, Dad shoots the front greenhead and Echo1 shoots the rear. It's his first greenhead and the SOB is banded.

Hap's 3 hunt. I am chaseing a spoonie on the ice. All of the sudden there are about 30 - 40 mallards working. The pass right over head and I let them decoy. They shot them up and a cripple falls across the lake. I start off after the cripple and here come more mallards. I let the circle over my head once or twice, and I can't resist it. I pick a big bull greenhead and unload on him. NADA, i hurt him at least and he peels over to the decoys where Hap smokes him. It is his second mallard of the day / ever and it is BANDED!

About 7 -8 years ago (back when there were plenty of ducks in the Belzoni area) four of us were on an afternoon hunt in a flooded beanfield. We had plenty of mallards working on that sleeting afternoon, and had almost completed our hunt, being only one mallard shy of a limit for four hunters.

One pair of mallards, drake and hen, came not quite close enough to the decoys, but three of us unloaded anyway. The greenhead got away unharmed but the hen was wounded and fell out into the open field. My two buddies harrassed me for shooting the hen, claiming that there was no way they did it, as they were both aiming at the greenhead.

So they made me trudge through about 200 yards of muck, chasing a wounded duck that could still walk. When I finally made it back, nearly having a heart attack from all the exercise in the mud, they were still messing with me for shooting the susie and having to go through all that trouble to bag the bird ... that is until I held it up and showed them the leg jewelry.

Seeing them with nothing more to say and completely shutting them up was almost as good as getting another band! 8)

I'll tell it for him since he is no longer internet ready.....Beastmaster hunting by himself, shoots a teal, mallard comes in shoots the mallard, goes to pick up the mallard.....band! He's thinkin',"Wow, that's awesome"...walking toward the teal, thinkin', "Wouldn't it be neat if that teal is banded"........yup ..picks it up ...Band.
To top it off, he goes and sits on a deer stand on the way out.....kills a ten point. Scruffy ten point, but ten point none the less.

Dog trainer that most of you know told me this story. He and his dad were hunting on a frozen beaver pond in Scott Co. and his dad shot a duck that got away. They were sitting there a little later and noticed something out on the ice that was shining and looked out of place. They got around there close to where it was and it was a band. After further investigation you could see where the shot had hit the band where it comes together and basically shot it off of the ducks leg!!! True story. Some of the people on this site have heard this story before I know.

JLT .. I GOT ONE FOR YEE. if dog was here he'd back it up. we's sit'n on little ol frozen puddle one murn'n and heard something jingle'n like shackles. looked up and there he was.. fly'n in crooked. with some jurry hanging off his foots. knew right then it was one of them uptown ducks from somewhere like sha-cargo.. anywho.. to make the story short. after reporting and getting the paper work back.. found out this duck was in sometype of gang. "partners in flight " they'd been tring to catch him for some time. he'd been landing on fidel castro's floodin mara-juana fields so dog says.. you'd have to get ol dog to tell you the story.. make sure he gets a few in him before he starts it though.

Jlt's story is winning so far imop. Five or six years ago we lacked two mallards for getting our limit. So my buddy said Ill video the last two. Well a few mins went by and two mallards started to work. When they came in the hen was on my side and the fat head was on my buddies side. When we stood up to shoot I saw the band on the hen and rolled her. As soon as I shot I said it got a band. The other two called bs. The dog picked the ghead up first and the hen last. Once they saw the band they quickly shut up. All of this and the conversation was on video.

I know that story. That is the one where Dog go the band that he wears around his neck now. If I am not mistaken it was diamond studded also......right. Man I couldn't have even made up a lie as good as the story I told. It was told to me for the truth, and the guy that shot it was a preacher, so who knows???? BTW Dog had a little girl alst night. 8lbs 10oz and her name is Anna Blaire. Gonna call her Blaire. My sis had one the afternoon before 8lbs 2oz his name is Charlie.

Many years ago it snowed 8+ inches in the Delta. All the fields were covered up and water was hard to find. Me and my hunt'n buddies decided we would go try Lake Beulah. We got to the boat ramp and of course it was covered in snow. We were nerves putting the boat in the water for fear of the truck sliding in the lake. We walked down to the waters edge and all you could hear were ducks!! You guys know what happen next. BOAT IN THE WATER!! Anyway the ducks were piling in on us. We weren't even hide all that well. Just had the boat tied to two stumps and a few limbs around us with burlap over us. A lone mallard came in from our back and right over my shoulder. I immediately saw the ban and rolled the bird. He came up swimming and I insisted on us untying and going after it. we got close and one of my buds jump up to shoot it but I stopped him and I shot. He wanted to know why I wouldn't let him shoot so I picked up the bird and said this is why. Only band I have!
