Got the Mossberg from my son last year b/c it seemed to fit him best in terms of lenght of pull, etc. We shouldered a bunch of different ones and it worked for us. He did not shoot it a ton last year but there were no problems to report, seems to be good starter gun.

The Mossberg youth shotgun, pump or auto? Steel or lead?

Got my daughter the youth 870 Express last year. She loves it. Doesn't kick too much. Flat dustrolled her first greenhead with it with #4 steel. I recommend it..

I have looked at them all and will be purchasing the 870 for my son. We have shouldered everything under the sun. I was considering the mossberg, but I can break the 870 down in my sleep or chest deep water.

The Mossberg (bantam I think) youth gun was a 20 gauge pump.

Here's another one to look at, in a couple of months Walmart will be carrying a charles daly youth pump with a camo stock and forearm and it will retail for about $170 bucks.

I bought my son an 870 20 guage youth model two seasons ago. He prolly killed more greenheads than half the lurkers on this site did last year with it. Great little gun.

The 870 youth my folks bought me is now serving its third master (me and a couple of younger cousins) and is still going strong. It turned me into the 870 man I am today.

I bought my girls a .410 years ago and then purchased the Remington 1100 in 20 gu. if you can stomach the price tag, being that their gun now costs more than mine. I would recommend it, quite a bit less kick than the pump guns.
