Surf Fishing?

I am headed down to Fort Morgan next week and wanted to try a little surf fishing... I am not sure what kind of setup to use or if it is even worth trying... any help is appreciated...

word of wisdom..... don't keep your bait or catch tied close to you. IF there are any sharks in the water, this will bait them closer to your body.

I just got back from a week stay in Ft Morgan. Fished the surf and only caught a few catfish. We were only a mile from the mouth of the bay. People caught more sting rays than anything. It was very slow on the fishing side. Nice weather though. Have fun! I wish I was back there now.

If you have time, take the ferry over to Dauphin Island. From the landing, walk east to the rocks, about 1/4 mile. There is also a pier in that area that you can fish off of...

I grew up fishing the Fort morgan area.
Unless you are fishing back in the bay or some kind of structure, don't mess with it. The Fort morgan pier might be where you want to go, i have caught all sorts of fish off of it. And take you some crab nets and chicken necks. Al the blue crabs you want on that thing.
There is a ferry wreck couple of hundred yards west from the peir that you can could fish from the bank.
We would take our duck boat and go out in the back bay areas on a slick day and catch trout and flounder. If you feel frisky, on a slick day you can sneek out to the first rig in the bay a fish it. Just be aware of the weather.

I was in Orange Beach about 3 weeks ago and caught quite a few skipjack (Ladyfish). I caught them in the mornings on shrimp and cut up bait fish. In the late afternoons they wouldn't touch the live stuff, so I swapped to a silver spoon and wore em out.
